Disappointing to use. I remember it being one of the better guns the first few months after the game came out. But now it's pretty crappy, I might as well have had a BB gun. Why is it so bad now? I only remember weight being added during the balance changes but was there another nerf I forgot about? Or where the other guns buffed so much that the Carnifex kind of got left behind?

It once was a good weapon especially on the AA. You could headshot things to death before they dropped out of stasis. It's still decent on Gold I guess.

The Carnifex is as good as ever. There are better guns around now though.

I don't recall a damage nerf, but other guns got buffed. It was really, really overused at one point.

Only nerf I recall is they increased the weight of it to be the same as the Paladin. I think enemy health has been buffed a bit and power creep in other weapon left the Carnifax behind. The Mattock used to be an ok weapon a long time ago now it kind of sucks.

It was my favorite weapon to use in early 2012, and I learned to become good at headshots with it. Even with the power creep, I think it can be a very decent weapon on the right kit (most likely the Turian soldier). Just make sure to get those headshots.

 

Heavy barrel + piercing + pistol amp + 30% headshot damage (racial) + targeting VI III + AP/incendiary IV

 

Its competitors--paladin, arc pistol and talon--are preferable in most situations but have issues of their own that might make the carnifex the best alternative sometimes.

 

Paladin: Small mag means you have to take the extended mag. 

Arc pistol: The charging dynamic doesn't work well for some kits (powers that increase ROF)

Talon: Short to medium range.

No, you don't. There are enough ammo boxes around and you carry 6 thermal packs, too. Or you could use it on the Demolisher and spawn your own ammo.

The extended mag for pistols isn't used to combat a lack of total ammo. It gives more rounds per clip, meaning better sustained dps.

I don't think it's bad. Then again, I didn't use it in the beginning; balance changes were close to the end by the time I started playing so I don't have the glory days version to compare it to. I love it over the Paladin because of the longer magazine and the damage discrepancy is negligible in my opinion. 

 

Then again, it's also not the Arc Pistol or the Talon, so what difference does it make.

whut. it does the same exact damage per bullet as the harrier. and is also an uncommon.

only thing wrong with it is trigger finger stress which can be fixed with autohotkey, then it is harrier lite

Scorpion is the shizzle, Carnifex was good in 2009 (ME2). It's very lackluster even on Silver. Same can be said about the Paladin. It's weak, even on gold. Maybe stasis-headshottin', but that's so demo!

Carnifex may be a bit lackluster, but Paladin is a very good weapon. It has DPS practically equal to the Saber with half the weight. It's only "problem" is that it's not stupidly OP like Arc Pistol and Talon.

I'm using the hell out of it on most kits... it might retire if I ever got a maxed PALADIN.  Fat chance of that.

Anyone using a Harrier will outscore anyone using a Mattock.  The Harrier shoots for you by holding the trigger down.  You can actually put 4 bullets in someone without your hand hurting.  The Mattock is the single worst gun in the game for this reason (in my opinion).
