Tried searching the forums but was unable to find much of anything on the topic.

 

One of my memories of DAO was that during the prologue section of the game, if you were not a rogue, you might encounter locked objects with which you are unable to pick the lock.

 

Going forward after that, it becaome necessary to bring a rogue with you all the time, so as to be able to pick the lock of anything you might find.

 

I barely remember how it was in DA2, but I recall a similar necessity.

 

How will this be handled in DAI? Will it generally be a good idea to bring a rogue character with me at all times (not a bad proposition by any means, just wanting to know)?

Rogues will be able to lockpick doors and chests but they also added that warriors and mages also have environmental abilities that allows access to new areas or items. So not only rogues but it's recommended to bring a mage and warrior as well.

I saw some doors and chests in demos that looked like they were only accessible with rogues.

I am pretty sure that the level of the locks able to be picked are no longer dependent on cunning but go back to a more of an origins approach that which are perks for the inquisition that we pick

You need rogues to lockpick. There is also inquisition persks that allow your rogues to lockpick tougher locks. Warriors are needed to bash through walls and iron gates while mages are needed to lift bridges out of the water and get through magical barriers.

I think we get Varric pretty quickly, so I don't think the Origins problem will really happen.

I just played a bit on EA access and there are some bits at base camp where you can lock pick if you are a rogue. Not sure if you can walk around there with your team at a later point. Just small bits of loot and codex nothing game changing.
