My main concern is whether or not this does in fact inhibit performance? People claim this was the case with LOtF. Was it? Or were they just shifting the blame from the developers onto the DRM?

It seems more like the latter; disgruntled players who seize every opportunity to blame the "DRM" boogeyman for a game's failings.

Shifting blame most likely, the game has poor performance in all platforms, and with the recent barrage of poorly optimized ports for PC, well...

Nothing stays "uncrackable" forever. They only want the "cushion" of the first month or two without a pirated release in order to get more sales (which is fine by me) but stopping legitimate customers from messing with the files of the game they just bought, that I'm not cool with. (I'm talking about SP not MP obviously)

I wrote that it is uncrackable at the moment.

Anyway, Starforce was eventually cracked too. Took about 1.5 to 2 years though.

I was going to pirate the game just to see how it runs on my old gaming rig. I was going to buy it because I'm almost sure that the game will run smoothly here at least on medium. But I won't buy it unless I know for sure. I've DA:O and all ME games on Origin. I'm a huge Bioware fan.

I'm really not interested in buying it for my PS3 and now there is now way to know how my computer will handle the game. I don't want to buy it to play it at 20fps.

What do we get for paying for our games?

Ultimately, if everybody skirts paying for games, there will be no games. I can understand a company wanting to protect its product so that it can sell as many un-pirated games as possible. I like free stuff as much as the next guy, but we gotta be realistic here.

This of course doesn't mean DRM should be poorly designed (not that I'm saying that in this case it is) or should hamper a paid customer's experience in any meaningful way. I heard some awful stories about the DRM for Diablo 3 (which I didn't buy or play).

As I posted earlier, I've heard a lot of doom and gloom about Origin, but I haven't had any bad experiences with it and I own a lot of Bioware games. If Origin continues to be a non-annoyance I have no problem with its use.

I do wish we had modding tools, but it was never advertised that one could mod Inquisition so I bought the game knowing in advance that that would not be a feature. That's on me. Odds are, some modding will occur, as there are some determined and ingenious modders out there.

You can currently download a free trial of Battlefield 4, a game that shares DAI's engine, on Origin.

It doesn't matter if its not DRM in the traditional sense, what matters is the fact that its made by Sony DADC, a company with a proven history of creating anti-piracy software that harms legitimate consumers.

Actually, I'm pretty sure what matters is how this affects the game. If it affects the game at all.

No, unless you actively try to modify the executable, you won't even know it's there.

Yes I have BF4 and Premium and I was just playing the campaign for the first time to see how the game is. I can play the singleplayer even on high locked at 30FPS without any major problems, but the multiplayer is a pain. I have to play it on low and depending on the map my computer struggles to maintain 30FPS. Sometimes it even goes below 25, specially on 64p servers. That's what I'm concerned about. I want to play DA:I as smooth as my PC can, I'm not asking for more than 30FPS... But I don't know for sure if it's a well-ported game.

I'll just go back to not caring then.

Mr. French was kind enough to answer(thank you sir), so I'll believe him. As long as my computer doesn't go BOOM, we're fine.

Overreacting to something created by the same guys who did SecuROM? Nah.

Good, happy I didn't buy this and invested that money into TW3. At least CD Projekt RED knows how to treat their customers right.

WHY have this? Origin is already DRM, just like Steam.

I HATED securom, it gave me so many hassles back when it was around with performance and asking for CD (Even though it was already in my bloody dvd drive!).

The only thing DRM does in the long run is hurt LEGIT customers who pay their money, it makes them feel like they are criminals and on top of this is just more bloatware to cause issues and hamper performance.

God forbid you're playing at the limit of minimum and the protection takes a few fps that would be extremely helpful to actually have and not have it stealing 5% (The lords of the fallen devs mentioned performance with this costed about 1-5%), 5% is a pretty dang good chunk of performance if you are already on the mid/low end.

Why can't more publishers be like Cd Projekt and respect their customers and actually make them WANT to support them because they treat them with honesty.

Considering how some of the PC community rips off their product, I'd say they don't HATE the PC community, there in a Healthy Relationship with them. Respect goes both ways, yo.

Healthy relationship? By forcing cancer on legitimate players like me?

A dev explains this earlier in the thread. Hit the Bioware button for more details. Annnd DRM has never made me feel like a criminal or has hurt my performance. CD Projekt Red, I like Witcher 2. Witcher 1, ummm, it was interesting. Looking forward to Witcher 3. They're taking a gamble on the amount of pirated games vs. profit. People WILL steal copies of their game, and that sucks because those devs have obviously worked hard on the game. I plan on being a paying customer, and I hope that they don't lose too much money and can keep making more games.

Dont expect it to be 5% of performance loss. More like 10%-15%.

Has Denuvo been cracked yet?  Apparently neither FIFA 15 nor LotF have been cracked yet, but the articles are two weeks old.

Also, is there any evidence that Denuvo is causing these bugs?  Is there another buggy game that uses Denuvo, or proof LotF's bugs are because of Denuvo?

Also also, what was the big deal with Securom?  I haven't played any games with it.
