I spent nearly three hours on a black male Inquisitor and came up with an initial result...
And then a slightly modified version with a darker tone (hard to tell in this second screenshot due to lighting) and different complexion, plus stubble instead of the light goatee. Also using this tutorial for truly black hair color instead of the ugly grayish blueish color BW tries to pass off as black.
I'm fairly really happy with him.

Tell me about those black hairs. Mess. it's seems like such an affront on BW's part. But in any case, you made an awesome inquisitor sir/ma'am. I know it's difficult for me with that really shiny skin on the darker skin tones. It's almost like my inq slapped some coco butter on and called it a day. I may just have to try that de-shine mod.

Cute - although I'm partial to thin lips on a guy - but you'll be pulling your own hair out trying to give him that hairdo. Oh and the ears are too big in proportion to the rest of the face, IMO. But he *is* cute

thanks for the feedback @mgagne Fawkes' ears ARE kind of big, but i have been playing with a little distortion too to get a bit of a cartoony vibe!

Here's my Trevelyan mage. I wish that hair I used for Pilar worked for human males. I just settled for the "man bun" as I do like that hairstyle on men irl.
^ one thing I found with the CC and chin/face is this (took me a bazillions runs to realize this):
the jaw "size" is really misleading. if you drop it all the way 'down' in the sliders, it gives a jowly sort of look (where 'jowls' actually draw in the skin around the mouth and can be used to round out/contour the cheeks effectively). my hubby kept saying 'your toons look like they have the mumps' until we realized that was the slider that was giving them the pouchy look
So, for MOST females, it looks best to pull the jawSIZE all the way up - i mean put that slider on the TOP of the box. then use jawLINE and chin size to define the lower half of the face. I think on the men, their heads are generally larger, and you don't notice the extra volume. on the women, esp. the slight elves, it's noticable - but only outside of the CC. in the CC, it's hard to see because of the odd lighting and straight-on perspective (unless you use the flycam to pop out of it to double-check your work, as i did). But I was astounded by the difference in game.
also, 2 more tips: i found the cheekbones usually looked best drawn IN a bit (they tend to be set wide) and the cheeksize looked best pushed forward to make them rounder. also, the eyes begin very close-set and sunken, on most of the default faces.
blah blah blah, how many runs have i done in the CC? i don't even want to say.
You know what, I think you're right. But I think that what actually troubles me is her chin.

There seems to be a sort of "bump" under the chin and it's really bothering me. Thing is my Trevelyan instead has pretty similar CC option, I always turn the jaw size all the way down for instance.. but Trev does not have this. So I don't understand.. Until now I considered it a problem with femal elf head model or something.. but some people seem to make such nice Lavellans, so I must be doing something wrong.

I agree on the shine. I didn't know there was a mod for it. I'm just so glad I found the edit for the hair; also, I'm kind of shocked it was that easy and all BW had to do was not bump up the blue values in the hair (looking at the RGB values it looks clear they meant to give a blue tint to it)

From Haven to the time Trespasser takes place, she obviously underwent a couple changes, especially in the hair and eyebrows (My guess is Vivienne knows a good salon to take the Inquisitor to). That, and she got a scar on her nose after her battle with Corypheus.

So, I am redoing my Lavellan for a new PT.. However I don't understand: why does every complexion I download seem to break the BE?
Everytime I have complexions I can never enter the BE.
But I see so many people using them.. So what am I doing wrong? I dunno.

Unfortunately complexions can't be used in the BE. If you need to change it mid-game you need to use the BE on a clean merged patch and set the complexion to the one the modded complexion overrides. Most modders use the complexion 3. Same goes for hairs. For whatever reason Bioware made it so that hairs only show up to high mesh texture resolution, not ultra in the BE and because every modded hair requires the mesh to be set to ultra in order to work...
It's annoying and i'd hoped Bioware would patch a fix for us but...not looking very likely now
Her eyes are artificially blue, she got a big forehead and patched up eye brows...
She is cursed with creepily invisible tattoos and a stepped nose...

yeah mods can be awkward to get working too. So far aside from Kadust's. I've not been able to get any others working yet either it may be a problem I'm having on my end though i need to investigate further to know for sure though. Having said that I'm thinking of staying with the mod I've got for the moment anyway as it seems to really suit my Inquisitor and her personality.
