Does anyone else struggle to make their male Lavellans look like grown-ups?  I have created a couple that I think look fairly mature enough, that I would say they're past the age of 20 at least.  But I usually end up with a fresh-face character who looks to be around 18 or so; often enough that I finally decided my guy is only 20 years-old and simply play my game happily enough.

But as I consider my pictures of him, I am left sitting here shaking my head in wondernment.  Sometimes he looks so much the youngster.  Then suddenly he looks almost grown-up.  It occurred to me, that a young man just entering his 20's probably struggles similarly.  You know, looking over-youngish and then turning around long enough to startle someone with his real maturity and experience.  Gives some depth to a character, now that I think on it.

So here's the different turns of my Lavellan's face that sparked me to thinking, btw.  Enjoy:

So I think my Aithne was at least 28-35, but man my Eibhlin is so young, probably 16-18.

Hmmm.... my Bruce was meant to be around 23 at the beginning of Inquisition. (I haven't finished Trespasser with him yet, but him being 25-26 in 9:44 Dragon fits my headcanon about him)

 Thanks and sorry

Well, Bruce is modeled after Bruce Banner from the Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon

tumblr_nm20nemJrz1sgaqfho2_500.gif

And Kiri...well, she was actually meant to just have blue eyes, but somehow the cursor for the inner iris was on pink, I looked at her face and went "Okay, that looks nice" and left it.

As for their Vallaslins....

Bruce's looks like it leaked into his eye x"D and Kiri was from the beginning planned to romance Solas and to lose her Vallaslin

-snip the beautiful pictures-

Personally I struggle with making male Lavellans in general. Don't even want to try thinking about their age.

Spoiler

Cheeky little buggers. <3

I find that the cute, short, square faces generally look rather young if their complexions are smooth. The longer faces tend to look a little bit older. But the smooth complexions tend to make most characters look rather young. Whether they are elves, humans, dorf or qunari.

Are you joking?  Modding Blackwall is the only way I've managed to FINALLY like the dude just enough to have him running around with me in-party.  Seriously, my relationship with the lying turd has taken quite a journey through my various playthroughs.  Let me see if I can explain the development, here:

First Playthrough ---> "Sigh, I hate facial hair. Annnddd you're boring, Blackwall ... wait ... what?!  You lied to me!  Argh!"

2nd Playthrough ---> "I still hate facial hair.  And I hate you.  Stay in the barn.  Forever."

3rd Playthrough ---> "I still hate facial hair.  Wait, I had a companion in the barn, right?"

4th Playthrough ---> "I still hate facial hair. Should I even bother going to the Hinterlands to get Blackwall?"

5th Playthrough ---> "I still hate facial hair.  Well, there IS a mosaic piece next to that hut where Blackwall's hiding out."

6th Playthrough ---> "I still hate facial hair.  Barn's over there, Blackwall.  Buh-bye."

7th Playthrough ---> "I still hate facial hair.  Oh, there's someone to talk to in the Crossroads about Blackwall BEFORE I stuff him in the barn."

8th Playthrough --> "I still hate facial hair.  The fact Blackwall saved villagers from demons is worth dragging him back to the barn again."

9th Playthrough --> "I still hate facial hair.  Why do I need to justify this fact to the BSN?"

10th Playthrough --> "I still hate facial hair.  Ah, that's a real cute hobby horse you're carving, Blackwall.  Try finding a razor!"

11th Playthrough ---> "I still hate facial hair.  As if facial hair's not bad enough, you let them murder a defenseless puppy!  Jerk!"

12th Playthrough ---> "I still hate facial hair ... wait!  There's a mod for that?"

13th Playthrough ---> "Hello, Blackwall.  I still hate you, you lying puppy-kicking murderer.  But at least I can tolerate your face now."

ScreenshotWin32_0197_Final_zpsg647lxvp.p

And before anyone says anything: I reserve the right to my own particular brand of absurd rationales in regards the story.  I certainly make no claim to logical intelligence or creative enterprise.  The fact Bioware writers could create a character that inspires me to feel any particular bent over a fantasy character in a video game is to their credit, mind you.  Even if I end up disliking a character, I figure he was at least well-written and conceptualized.

In the end, though.  I've been able to enjoy Blackwall's participation in my most recent playthrough far more easily now that I can tolerate seeing him on my computer screen, at least.  I still dislike him as a personality and character.  But he's better-looking now that's discovered the amazing difference a shave can make.

I've only played once so far and personally I wasn't a Blackwall fan.  The beard hair creeping up his cheeks gives me the heebie geebies for some reason.

But seeing your post....omg I'm loving that mod!  Off to investigate it, looks like this could be Anders 2.0 for me.  I was so sad with his DA2 appearance it ruined him a little for me, but once I found a mod I liked my opinion of him got better.

I'm not normally this shallow, promise.  It's very rare a character design will bother me like that.

Yea, manipulating the varied facial shapes can be a challenge.  I tend to avoid longish faces, because of my personal sense of aesthetic attractiveness.  I almost scrapped my most recent Maikhel in the opening scenes, because I thought his face was nearly too long.  But it wasn't too much.  I stick to the 4th Face Shape, for instance.  Every other time I try to make a male elf using one of the other face shapes, it comes out allll wrong.  Like the head is actually too big for the body; and it's just plain weird.

The other trick involves the jawline.  I've discovered that when you smooth out the jawline of the male elf face shape too much, you make him look over-feminine and even child-like.  I keep the jawline more square-shaped on my guy elves, than my gals.  It helps, shrug.

Nothing wrong with youthful looking M!Lavellans. ;) However, I do prefer an older/more mature face myself. I too avoided elongating the face, since the head shapes don't allow for quite as much freedom to utilize a long face without looking "youngish". (think Solas, as an example of a longer face that does look more aged.)

So I found widening the jawline and chin, help quite a bit. Also, little features like skin that isn't quite so baby soft, and ears that show length in the lobes. Of course, YMMV. :D

Huhm.... I would say go with the first one then. The front is going to matter way more in cutscenes, and the size difference isn't that noticeable.

Resist? Are you kidding me? Totally powerless would be a more accurate way of putting it. ;_; This will be my third time romancing him. Only managed to do a full Cullen romance because I did him in my first playthrough. And an abandoned female Qunari romancing IB somewhere....I can't seem to make anything else other than a female Elf Mage romancing Solas. It's sad, I know.

The struggle is real and I enjoy making male elves. Most males elves I see have that overly young look. My very first whirl through the CC, I made a dude Lavellan and he looked like a teenager. It terrified me so I deleted him promptly. Second time, I managed to make a face that was more mature and definitely not the face of a teenager. I felt free to make him any age I wanted between late twenties and late thirties. He is my canon Inquisitor and known around here for his fake moustache. I'm also not going to pass this chance to post more pictures of him. :D

Spoiler

I use his face as a general guideline for making my dude elves. I find you really need to be careful with the jaw.
And the other elf I created:

I know the feeling to an extent. I've been able to create and complete other play throughs, but I still find myself going back to replay my lady elves for Solas. I currently have three, and have recreated the two I had on PS4 on my PC so I go play them again.

As I mentioned before she slowly grows into a leader role, means accepting that thing on her hand + her magical abilities.

The decision which side she wanted to talk was a hard one for her ...  neither Cassandra, nor Vivienne could help her.

But since her distrust in Men, especially Templar, goes far deeper -  the decision was finally made to go to Redcliff. Facing Alexius and wandering through a terrible future gave her a strong will never let this come to pass !!!

Blackwall, Dorian and Bull joined in - but she keeps Blackwall and Bull on a distance. The shared adventure with Dorian, and his ability to make her smile with wit and irony, let her trust him much more then the others. Maybe cause she felt a long time like a Pariah, too.

I'm happy to oblige :D (is that the right phrase? )

Spoiler

Oh oh oh! Another thing!

Some weeks ago, I thought about what Cole would say about Greed (the cryptic comments he has about everyone) and got this:

“You say you don’t care, because you care too much.
They didn’t care. You were scared of them.
You laugh to hide your fear.”

And here in this video around 18:05, Cole's response to Greed's sarcastic comment IS. JUST. PERFECT. It's like Cole's sentence was written for Greed.
