Honestly, look at pictures of real people!
When I was making my elf girl, it helped me immensely to use this as reference:

Did she end up actually looking like that? NOT EVEN CLOSE, LOL. But it does help to sort of have a reference to keep things more "realistic" and not get too wonky.
This basically if you want to make a regular pretty face.
Making a proportionate and realistic face though is a different story. You need to understand basic facial proportions otherwise your character will look cartoonish and bland to someone with a trained eye. Being 90-95% accurate to a face ref isn’t that bad when that happens. Also googling what the basic human face proportions are and using that as a guideline wouldn't be a bad idea.
Another tip: when you're struggling spice things up by playing around with the hair, skin tones and eye brows. Making sure all those fit together like a puzzle piece is what will make or break your character into something more unique. I think it was the eyebrows, matched with the dark skin tone and violet eyes that really pulled off my mage qunari to make him work.
And do the makeup, scars, and tattoos last when everything else is finished. Those features are distracting in the start.
