Can anyone confirm whether this useless piece of crapware is used with DAI or not? If it's the case i'll start sharpening my fork an stock up on torches. No, seriously, bad move.

What does it do?

Basically nothing useful, the DRM abomination was birthed by the creators of securom (remember the activation limits? That's them), also authors of sony rootkits if i remember correctly. Basically it could just decide to kill your system on a whim or if you're lucky it'll open a backdoor for hackers to exploit. Back then it caused many problems and basically held for what, a few hours, before it was cracked (denuvo seems to be a bit stronger but not invincible). Right now it seems to hinder performance, but there's only 2 games at the moment that use it, we're unsure about how screwed we are. But if there are problems, people who actually bought the game will suffer more than pirates, as usual.

Well this news will certainly hurt sales on PC. When will the suits learn that gamers are increasingly unwilling to put up with anti-consumer bull?

what search are you doing...  I did a search and the only hits were a few random posts by no-name people.    Hardly what I call confirmed.

Technical Protection Measures.  The PC version of this Software uses Origin Online Activation and Sony DADC Austria AG’s Denuvo content protection technology.

Found in the game's EULA.

The eula states it quite clearly and it sucks massive monkey balls, as will be the guy who had this brilliant idea if i get my hands on him.

Is Denuvo actually known to cause problems? Lords of the Fallen is a buggy mess on its own, I've heard.

The website for it says that it just protects executables from being modified

This. Always, always this.

When will they learn that this DRM nonsense is absolutely useless? It'll get cracked within days, if not hours, and then what have you gained? Your game is still pirated, and your legal consumers pay the price. They're the ones who have to deal with unsafe junk on their PC, they're the ones who have to deal with not being able to play the game when servers go down. And the pirates, as a result, get a better gaming experience.

This is why I don't buy PC games. I'm not rewarding that **** with a sale.

(Please note that I do not pirate PC games, either. If I buy a game it's for console. Of course, it also helps that I don't have a proper gaming rig at the moment...)

Considering its made by the same people who made securom and the Sony rootkit, its pretty safe to assume it will be absolute crap.

Actually no, since both lords of the fallen and fifa 15 use denuvo, and have yet to be cracked weeks after they were released. Noone has cracked this drm yet, which is why its gonna become very popular with AAA developers/publishers.

We need to know what denuvo actually DOES to the game before we vilify it (beyond some vague emotional "gives hackers a back door to your system).

I'm not seeing anything about what it actually does online.

As for me, as long as it doesn't have a negative effect on the gameplay and as long as it doesn't reintroduce activation limits I don't really mind.

Edit: from the site: "Anti-Tamper stops the reverse engineering and debugging of the DRM solution, but has no effect or limitation on the legitimate consumer. Anti-Tamper is completely transparent to legitimate game buyers and does not in any way impose activation limits, install drivers, or require a gamer to be 'always on.'"

That doesn't sound too bad. Of course, we'll see how it works in reality--but have we heard any horror stories about FIFA?

Yes! They make you play soccer - for hours on end! It's horrible.

In another thread a BioWare guy says it keeps people from changing the Executable, so you can't say cheat in multi-player,

Pirates are gonna have a challenge on their hand. I am quite surprised of the quality of the protection but in the end it will still be cracked.

It's not a rootkit though. It's just part of the game files and encrypts them

Sony also said their thing was not a rootkit and was totally safe, they even provided a nifty "removal" software which installed more rootkits. I.DO.NOT.TRUST. denuvo creators and nobody should.

It's bundled as the exe. Wait and see. If it is a rootkit then request your money back.
