My mama always told me to be nice and pleasant to everyone and be on everyone's good side because true friends are few and far between.

With that said, I would like to ask, without being a troll or anything, how can some people betray or not be nice to any of their companions? If I slightly offend one of them, I get so depressed and have to reload a save. I want all companions to like me just because, well, they're my Warden's friends! They're Hawke's friends! They're Shepard's friends!

Out of curiosity, what causes people to drive off companions? Like someone said they kill Wynne. Or kill Leliana. Or chase Morrigan away. Or they make Alistair a drunk. Or STAB ANDERS (really, he's your FRIEND. Friends are supposed to stick with each other through thick and thin NO MATTER WHAT).

Same goes for ME. I was reading about someone who killed off as many companions as he can -- why? What is the underlying motivation for not being nice to the people who are trying to help you?

Different ideologies, don't like the companion's attitude or they simply just want to kill them for the sake of killing.

I'm the same way, I have the hardest time making the "evil" choices. I feel so bad afterward, and not just companions I always pay Bevans family for the sword in DAO and help Brother Berkel (even though I personally don't like the chantry)  Thank goodness the Keep lets me set up those evil choices for DAI with out feeling like I really made them.

If only they'd understand the power of friendship, that Breach would be closed in no time.

We can't be friends with everyone because some of our companions are lunatics. A few - Sebastian and Anders - are even incompatible with each other in the end. I don't like being a dick for no reason, but there are absolutely good reasons to part ways with some of these people. Of those you mentioned:

Or chase Morrigan away.

I think she's funny, but I also think she's an actual sociopath. No matter how much she seems to soften, (and I'm sure she genuinely appreciates you doing stuff for her) she still thinks it's a great idea to sacrifice random city elves in a blood magic ritual or to let a demon possess a little girl. In fact, she gets upset if you don't do these things.

Or STAB ANDERS (really, he's your FRIEND. Friends are supposed to stick with each other through thick and thin NO MATTER WHAT).

Friends stick with friends when they resort to preposterously misguided acts of terrorism and murder a ton of people?

Of those you didn't mention:

Zevran's also a murderer and Sten is ultimately a loyal member of an aggressive totalitarian empire. He can become one of its co-leaders in the comics, I think. **** that guy, for sure, if I ever see him again.

Lol either reset the game alot to you find the perfect party composition that will agree with what you are doing or wait for someone to do it for you so you can copy them.

My solution is to make a character that doesn't represent myself. At all. That way it's not "me" they dislike.

Pure and simple: Not everyone deserves to be treated nicely, regardless of what mama told you.

Usually (especially on my first playthrough) I try to stay as friendly as possible with all my party members. But in second, third, and so on playthroughs I try to mix it up sometimes.

In ME I always in every playthrough remained as friendly as possible with my teammates, since ther eis absolutely no reason to antagonize them.

I don't bend in my choices, if my Dwarf Warrior wants to make a deal with the Reavers and Leliana or Wynne want to step up, I'll put them in their place, first with words than with swords.

I've also played the DA and ME series multiple times, never the same, playing it the same way is boring I like to switch it up, see new content and for that to happen, sometimes you have to make friends, other times corpses.

I can agree with you to an extent, but sometimes it's difficult or impossible to remain friends with everyone. If a character has a different ideology than me, that's fine, if they disagree with me I'm cool with it, too. Sometimes they aren't cool with it though, and attack or threaten first. An example from me would be Sebastian. I didn't really like him. That said, I didn't go out of my way to hate on him or offend him, but in the end he hated me. I had to make a choice that ended any kind of friendship I had between one companion or the other no matter what. I don't go out of my way to make enemies but not everyone is compatible with me unless I just change my personality depending on who I'm talking to, so sometimes it just happens.

I found it pretty easy to roll with all of the DA:O companions, even though my Warden was a bit of a goody two-shoes. The Couslands seemed pretty good-natured and down to earth for a noble family, so I figured they would have raised him to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, and even the more morally gray characters like Morrigan and Sten gave him some reason to think they could be redeemed. (Morrigan endorsing the murder of slaves was still trying his and my last nerve, though.)

I had a harder time figuring out how Hawke could get along with a lot his companions until I decided that Varric and Aveline were his bros and everyone else just got to hang out with the cool kids because he felt sorry for them or they were good fodder for jokes. Except for Anders, who was really just a whiny medicine cabinet turned homicidal maniac.

Part of it is seeing all the content of the game, it takes me a few playthroughs to build up, but I like seeing what happens if Alistair is a drunk, or what Logain says if you put him in the party. Sometimes I try to play that way because that character may do that and defining my pool of friends to a smaller group helps me portray a different person than myself. Characters like Anders sometimes cross our IRL morals so much we don't feel we should let them live, or we feel the need to punish them.

That said, I have never been able to work up the nerve to sell Fenris to Denarius or send Isabela to the Qunari. Roleplaying evil or not.

I generally find myself roleplaying a more generous personality that is easygoing, so won't have much hassle with most companions, unless that character exhibits certain traits that start to reach the limit of that generosity. In DA:O, I thought Sten would really push it, but I was very surprised by his character. Morrigan was a bit tougher at first, but it was easy to understand her point of view. The only character that quickly got my PC to the breaking point was Anders, which I guess was a good thing, because I liked that there was at least one character that had enough issues to establish a rockier relationship, ultimately ending in putting him down once and for all.

Overall though, I think TWD's Clementine hardened me against game-induced guilt lol.

As for driving off or killing companions, "for the lols and the drama" is the only answer I can think of. It's entertaining to see the darker path the protagonist can take.
