I haven't played Inquisition. But it occurs to me that The Old Tevinter Magisters (like Corypheus and, I guess, the Architect) could be shapeshifters (like Flemeth). They could, therefore, be able to shapeshift into dragons.
So maybe archdemons aren't corrupted dragons. Maybe archdemons are transformed Magisters. By this theory, Dumat was not a dragon but a magister, who like Corypheus was "awakened."
Or maybe I am just trying to pass the time with half-cracked theories.
