Wait, did Bioware screw up AGAIN?! You cannot edit your Inquisitor afterwards. >:(

They put their efforts elsewhere and that is a great thing to me.

To be quite honest I LIKEEEE the fact I can't change my looks, it adds to the sense of permanence. I am not an "RP" player as in I don't actively pursue like crazy amounts of roleplay on tumblr or anything but I like the sense of immersion that a relatively unchanging face adds.

Now if I go from some burly male to some extremely thin and feminine male my immersion is broken and it feels like I am playing someone else.

I understand 100% not everyone will agree with me, but these are just my feelings.

Not sure if I'm missing anything but there seems to be no way to edit your Inquisitor's facial features much like the mirror in Dragon Age 2. Not sure if Bioware was listening at all to fan feedback it seems. Another step back. Most likely will be sold to us in a form of DLC.

Sure they added a robust CC, brought back multiple races, added huge varied environments instead of the same recycled areas, brought in a deep crafting system, a fortress to customise, more meaningful choices, higher replayability and over 100 hours of in game content.

But perhaps you're right, a single feature you thought was a priority (over every other issue they dedicated themselves to addressing) not being included was in fact an utter betrayal of each and every DA fan. Rather than say being a feature that wasn't a priority.

They did pay attention. They made sure the lighting conditions are the same in CC as they are in-game.

So now you can actually get it right the first time. No surprises.

I actually think they did listen, because iirc correctly, the reason the Black Emporium was so requested versus Origins was because you had to play through so much crap to get to the CC and then it was a horrible predictor of what your character looks like in cinematics and it also effected how your family looked in a way that wasn't predictable.

I still want it, but that's something to consider wrt to fan feedback :) Looks like they tried to correct what they assumed the underlying problem was , except now we all want the Black emporium anyway because it was so useful.

I would argue it is an unfortunate oversight that the ability to alter your Inquisitor's appearance (post initial CC) isn't being included, at least not initially.  Hopefully, this feature will be added (in some form) to the Inquisition's Base of Operations.  Like..I don't know...adding a tall mirror to the Inquisitor's Bedroom maybe?  Just makes sense to me.

I don't think this will be that big of an issue.

For one, the lighting in DA:I's CC will be the same as what is shown in every cinematic.

For two, you'll see what your character looks like within seconds as they stand up and turn around. If they look horrible, then restart the game. No big deal.

And thirdly, I'm pretty sure they will offer DLC later on down the line that allows you to edit your character mid-game.

Of course you're entitled to your opinion but...

If I end up messing up, I'm a big boy and can just restart the game. I did it in ME1 (my, those cheek bones) and I actually learned a lot about getting it right the first go 'round. And, as everyone's pointing out, you can see just about immediately if you FUBAR'd your design.

If they add a magic mirror later, great. If not, I'll lose no sleep because CHALLENGE ACCEPTED. No CC is gonna get the best of me, yo.

99.99% positive this will be added as part of DLC later on.

They call that feature a "Face melter" and they've mentioned a while ago that it wasn't in the game.

There might be an option for it later on with DLC, but the reason they went to such lengths with the CC as to give it Neutral lighting and have the opening sequences take place under multiple lighting conditions is so the player wouldn't feel the need for a "face-melter" past the prologue. That they'd be happy with the face at least past that point and if not, they wouldn't have to go far to restart the game.

I think most people used the face-melter in DA2 or restarted in the other BioWare games is cuz the character just didn't "look right." They made minute changes, they didn't change the face radically. So their hope is that the new CC would eliminate the need for minute changes for most players.

But what if I wanted to simulate the passage of time by having a haircut? Or what if my female inquisitor wanted a change of makeup before attending an Orlesian ball?

There are other reasons beyond "the lighting made me look like crap so I have to start over".

I don't want to belittle your concerns or anything, but I kind of feel like on the scale of all the things if this is the biggest complaint about Inquisition I'll be extremely happy. This isn't a screw up, or indicative of BioWare not listening. Dragon Age has only ever given the ability to change your character's physical appearance in DLC, there was no reason to expect or hold them to a different standard in this regard.

The 'only in DLC' qualification is a bit misleading.

As I recall, Black Emporium was a day 1 DLC included with some versions of the game.

So it was an improvement over DAO and DAA that was there on day 1. It's not unreasonable to expect them keep that improvement in the franchise.

>sighs< But... I've also said that about a few other things I liked about earlier DA that are gone from this game.  :(

I played through the whole of Mass Effect 1-2-3 with a character with a bumpy nose. I didn't intend it to be that way, I just didn't realize that in ME1 you could move the head when creating her. So, bumpy nose it was. And then I couldn't change it :( But... it became part of her, and now I can't see her any other way. I made other Sheps I love too but my first will always have _that_ nose.

I will live with whatever my inquisitor looks like - even if I mess up. I guess if she messed up her make up then it's her own fault! With Emony Shepard, she obviously broke her nose several times sparring with people. Head makes up for any artistic mistakes, corners that were cut, etc.

No. That's not what I said.

I said that it was, in factDay 1 DLC.

If, to further use the post I first quoted,

Oh okay. So the fact that it was "Day 1" DLC somehow makes it so that it wasn't DLC?

Every single RPG with a character creator except for DA2 does not have this feature. I never expect it, and it honestly breaks immersion when I can just be all like, "let's chill out for a minute guys while I completely reform my face in the most radical way possible. Like my new face? Good, guys. Good."

I wouldn't say it's a major screw-up.  But there definitely are benefits to doing so, both for casual users and people who want to role-play (add scars etc.)  Too late now though, and judging by the reviews, they spent a bit much time making content and not enough bug-squishing as is.

It's a pretty common feature in MMOs, although it usually comes with micro-transaction fee attached.

These who advocate to restart the game and create new character and how it's not a big deal because there's no long intro etc... kinda overlook that unless you wrote down settings for all your sliders, you'll be creating the character from scratch/preset instead of just correcting whatever flaws pop up after playing the game for a bit. Which is both rather time consuming in itself, and error-prone. Not to mention other uses for this feature, mentioned already in earlier posts.

In Skyrim, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Fallout NV you can access the character creator for free using console commands.
