Which basically negates the ban of PS3 (digital) gamers like myself.
GG Indian Politics. Git good noobz!
Or at least that is what I hope.
It shows up still on the PSN when I checked couple hours ago. I want to buy it for my PC though. ![]()

new twist in the tale: Look at this
There was an article regarding PC game releases for EA in India and that we cannot buy the physical copy any more. There has been a price hike to bring the price closes to US
On asking a few retailers, they said that the PC version went digital and a physical copy is doubtful but you might get it for XBox and PS. They have asked us to check back after 21st which is the release date. EA's retailer in India Game4u is showing the price as 4399 and is allowing you to preorder as a digital download. It was the same for FIFA 15 too. The PC version was a digital download whereas the others were physical copies.
So in that case, I'm guessing its a distributor issue and not a government issue
THe game is available on XBox and Playstation store

Does Bangladesh use the Indian Origin store as the basis? Sometimes certain countries don't have their own regional stores and will use the nearest or most appropriate regional equivalent. Like on the Playstation, the Indian store shows local currency but what is released/not released is dictated by what is released in the EU store as that is the basis they use.
Yes, that's exactly it. Bangladesh is not large enough to be assigned a region of its own, so 'India' covers it and I suspect Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka as well. Hence when the game is pulled for India, it's pulled for me as well. It's just an additional irritation on top of an already shitty situation.

You can use VPN or other (wink wink nudge nudge, word used for Blastoise's ability in Pokemon) underhanded means.
I mean Indian officials are all about underhanded means and EA deserves it frankly.

That is shitty. If Indian laws are preventing release in India it shouldn't extend to neighbouring countries if their governments don't object.

I wouldn't blame EA for this particular situation. Their hands are tied if they have to abide by local laws.

I guess we won't know if it was cause of those laws that the game is not being passed. Otherwise, why is it availble for consoles?
Im guessing EA doesnt want to sell for PCs in India and since the internet bandwidth is not as good here, there isn't a good market size for Origin in India, hence they pulled it down.

But why this game in particular then? it's not like they're shutting down Origin in India.

Considering that very few people would consider downloading 25 GB at a 512k-2Mbps connection? And if anti-gay laws were the reason, why are the previous editions and games still being sold?

I think it's not exclusively the homosexual content on it's own, but the fact that it's a more explicit homosexual content in comparison to previous games. Also I get that not many here might go for digital download, but how does it help cut out those that do? Besides other games are being sold on origin which are also GB heavy.
But why is it being sold on Xbox and Playstation in that case?

I think the most prudent course of action right now is to wait. Give it until the 21st. Let's see if EA releases an official statement to the press and gives an explanation. Let's see if the console versions are also pulled or not. Let's see if the Indian censorship people say anything. Let's see how the alternate methods of getting the game - buying it using a VPN, buying it using a CD Key, buying it from abroad, etc. - works. Then, we can make an informed decision.
This....would be amazing!
I am just a watcher on these forums and rarely post but I simply have to let out some steam!!!
This is just fanf_ckingtastic and makes no sense!!!!
The console version is still available. So much for upgrading my PC!!! And there are a megaload of games out here that have more violence and sex in them that don't care about 'local content laws' - no idea what they mean. Forget about games - the crap that shows on our TV makes my eyes bleed.
Does EA/bioware hate India or something ?
Oh well... type to pony up my card and order from amazon US with all the extra shipping+import duty.. AAAARGGHHH...
This is quite bad news for indian players and I feel for them. It sucks that EA just suddenly announces something like this so close to release! Hopefully you guys will be able to get console versions or even piracy one's since this isn't fair : /
the law isnt new.. its been around for one and a half centuries... wat a laaaame reason!! EA can't be serious
It had been repealed and then at the end of last year it was reinstated.
I would assume that because it has recently been reinstated then the Indian Government are cracking down harder on the LGBT community & and media that has LGBT content.
FOund one thread on reddit with one post as follows:
my friend contacted EA again...they said their legal team is working hard to launch the game in India...so all hopes are not lost yet

Inquisition has more nudity than Origins. Actual exposed breasts/butts vs the underwear, plus generally more profanity and sexual references, it seems. So it must have been over some threshold the others weren't.
Hope the VPN works out for you!
And to add what Veeia said... Issues such as these can change from year to year within a country, in the 90's NYPD blues was a US network TV show that included partial nudity, yet now you'd be hard press to see the same kind of nudity on a US network show. What was once permitted is no longer permitted, the morals of a society are in constant flux they do not always move in one direction.

So, we are OK with over sexualization of people (women) in movies. Content which is meant for a mature audience is beamed over television channels and even children are viewing that, surprising that it is passed without any violations but a game which is rated as M and is targeted only through certain channels (like online) is being proven guilty of violations.
Why are some of the posters trying to blame EA for the molasses of laws that exist in different countries? As far as the console version still being available do we know if the consoles versions have the exact same level of nudity and/or LBGT content as the PC version? The console versions have to get the approval of both Sony and Microsoft? So are the console versions toned down? Even if the content is exactly the same the game may still be pulled from distribution before the release date.
Also laws change. The homosexuality laws in India were deactivated and not enforced at one point. Those laws have been reactivated. Some laws come and go depending on who is in power, who are their supporters and the prevalent view of certain segments of society. For example Nigeria has passes laws that make homosexuality punishable by imprisonment which appears pleases a majority of the people in that country. In my opinion is it dead wrong, but that is the law. So I really do not expect to see DAI in that country unless it is by illegal means. The same with India. Also I have read that Bangladesh has roughly the same laws as India on this matter. So I am not surprised it was pulled.
In fact the direct quote from Wikipedia is:
According to Section 377 of the Bangladeshi Penal Code, "Whoever voluntarily has carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal, shall be punished with imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment of either description [that is, hard labour or simple] for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine".

That law has not been used for anything in living memory. In fact, that is from the 19th century, directly lifted from the British Penal Code. No game in Bangladesh has ever been banned for LGBT content. Not because Bangladesh is gay-friendly (it is not), but because the government only cares about this kind of thing if it's detrimental to their local image. The number of people who care about DA:I in this country can probably be counted in the 100s.

Damn reading that makes me glad to be Canadian.

The point is that the law exists which means it can be used if any politician or group sees an advantage in using it. Such is the case in India. If someone in Bangladesh wants to make an issue of it they can because of the law. EA and any other company will always err on the side of caution rather than anger the group in power in a particular country.
Some games have been outright banned in countries due to particular content. The fact that it has not been used does not mean it cannot beused in the future.
If the law was the reason for the ban, then it makes no sense why it would only apply to the PC, but not consoles. If it is a legal and content issue, it makes no sense why it would be limited to a certain type of distribution. The point is that the law exists which means it can be used if any politician or group sees an advantage in using it.
