Games come out in NA on Tuesday. Games come out in EU on Thursday (I believe). Not sure of the reason. All games do this.
So... why exactly can't we play right now?

I'm not terribly concerned with not being able to play it right now, but it is a little bit crazy-making to see the icon just sitting on my desktop and not being able to do anything with it. It would have been fun to get a good start on it this weekend. Because it's the weekend and I didn't have plans anyway.

In general:
- If downloads are spread out over a weekend, it makes it less likely that EA's servers will catch fire than if everyone hit download at midnight on the 18th.
- It gives players the chance to play immediately on launch.
I happen to agree that they should let in the people who downloaded it like a normal citizen of the 21st century, but I can't fault them for not wanting to make the brick stores angry. Overall, this system seems like a fair compromise to me.
Edit because of course I don't come up with a good analogy until ten minutes later:
This phase is like when Thanksgiving dinner is all cooked and on the table, but your grandfather still insists on slowly drawling his way through Grace before anyone can enjoy themselves. It's just something you have to bear through to get to that delicious deep-fried nug.
I think that way better comparison be that gran insists for everyone to wait for uncle to come from bathroom so we can all start at the same time. Cause uncle likes wings too.
