Try this M.E.U.I.T.M. mod from ModDB or you can download it on the nexus site under mass effect.
It is amazing. helps with those hideous textures and improves lighting and shadows. Hope that helps ![]()
It is the best thing out there to help with ME1's appearance.
Hopefully Bioware will do a HD remake of the entire trilogy and make them look equal.
Your eyes have better standards and are not from 2008. There is no cure. Madrict's advice is the best (only...) option.
I remember the game looking pretty awesome, overall, when it first came out. In fact, the box I had at the time wouldn't hardly run it! It was mostly ok at lowest settings, but for some reason the decryption minigame lagged the HELL out of my system. I thought it was meant to be that hard. I seriously did not realize the ring-dodge game was supposed to animate smoothly for a couple months after I started playing. Brilliant, eh?
Mass Effect is still one of the best games I've ever played, but 3d game graphics usually don't age well. Would love for Bioware to make a remastered version ![]()
My love for this game may have clouded my judgment, but I think ME1 has aged really well (has aged better than DAO imo).
The only mod I'm using is the one that fixes Garrus's blurry face so what you see here is all vanilla, no post-editing at all. Maybe try giving this eight-year-old game a little more patience? It could also be related to how it runs on newer graphics cards.
Good graphics or not, it's still a very good game ![]()
This is insane. Even playing again on the xbox, I'm stunned at how well the game has aged.
Shows how important good art direction is, really. It's still beautiful.
I agree. I tried the high-def texture mod and it didn't really do anything but remove my FemShep's eyelashes, so I got rid of it. Yes, there were better textures on clothing, but that's all I noticed, and I can certainly live without that. I thought the game was actually very good and I only played it the first time about a year ago.

Crysis did ![]()
The game is from 2007...I think OP needs to cut it some slack. All things considered, the game is still very playable and looks good. And as someone said - the game still looks better than DA:O...and that game came out two years later!
The only mod I've ever felt a need for with ME:1 is the Garrus face texture fix.
If you want a graphical boost, you should be able to downsample the game to make textures pop. It's old enough that I'd imagine most machines should be able to do it.

How does one "downsample"? See? Always me with the "how do you do that?" questions. ![]()

to be honest, i didnt noticed that much of a difference between FHD and UHD in ME1.

relatively easy if you have a GTX4XX or newer/AMD R7/R9 2XX (dont know if all of them support it) or newer, not so easy if not. i dont know how to do this with AMD-cards; with a GeForce you need to activate the different DSR-factors in the global 3D-settings of the driver, and then apply the higher resolutions in the games options. if your graphic card doesnt support this, you can try to create a custom resolution via driver, but it depends on your monitor how far you can go. i heard that it is easier with nvidia, dont know, never done it with an AMD.
google can tell you more.

I typically avoid using DSR (though it is easy) simply because it only works with Fullscreen and I like to play in Windowed mode. I built several different custom resolutions via NVIDIA Control Panel, all the way up to 2160p. I have a pretty basic monitor (27" AOC IPS 1080p) and it went to 2160p @ 60Hz without any problem. Some games (like Skyrim, DA:I, and TW3) I have to engage the custom resolution manually on my desktop before starting the game. Of course, this also means that my desktop shows in the new resolution. Other games (like TOR) only require me to set the custom resolution in-game and they get scaled without needing to change my desktop.
*edit* I just checked ME:1 and I was able to set up 2160p in-game without changing my desktop resolution. You just have to have the custom resolution built and in the available list. The game downsamples beautifully without the need for DSR. For GPU I have a GTX 980 Ti SC ACX.
Just to add, MEUITM has been updated since I posted here (I think).
Just spreading the world. This is the best we got until they decide to do a remaster of the trilogy, I really hope they do! I wanna play this on PS4 ![]()

Anyway the crashes I mentioned in my last post have been resolved and no longer happen (it had more to do with my config file than anything), the mod runs perfectly for me now and really fixes up some of the uglier textures in the game (NPC clothing in particular) and improves shadows etc.

I'd rather see them sink their resources into the development of ME:A or other franchises under their belt (DA or TOR) than remaking an older game that is still completely playable as-is.

It actually looks better on my PS3 than it does my pc at high settings. I turn the graphic quality down just so I'm not trying to over render the textures that it was not designed for.

I agree with what's been said about it being a beautiful game, especially thanks Bioware's art direction
However, as I've kept replaying it over the years (Mass Effect story, music and characters age like good wine, keeps getting better), I think several textures, especially during combat, are starting to look old.
As an example I enjoy, The Last of Us Remastered made some great improvements of graphics over the original, hope Bioware will do the same with Mass Effect one day, it certainly deserves it ![]()
all 3 ME have crappy textures^^
I don't see how Mass Effect looks like ****. It looks like a game made in 2007.
Also, I've always liked Mass Effect and it's graphics. It's always been a pretty-looking game and was very unique.
