No, it doesn't boggle the mind. Have you never gotten a gameover against human opponents? Have you ever made a serious attempt at doing a solo playthrough of DA2? I'm guessing the answer to the first is yes and the answer to the second is no. Hawke's very strong and skilled and powerful, but not unbeatable. A single assassin enemy like a Templar hunter can freaking one-shot kill you. Or have you forgotten about those guys?

And losing to mages? Even easier to believe. These are the same mages that in DA2 could cause a full party wipe with a single ice explosion of blood magic attack. Have you forgotten those too?

but my Hawke still defeat the Arishok singlehandlely

So did mine but facing one enemy alone and facing 30 is very different.

Gameplay and story segregation ITT.

Both Hawke and the Warden have killed hundreds in pursuit of their careers.  That's because a) a game with very few fights would be boring and B) games with very difficult or unfair but realistic fights do not appeal to most people.

However, realistically speaking, it only takes a single mistake to get captured or killed.  A single slip, an arrow in the wrong place, a mage with the right set of spells...combat is a notoriously tricky beast, moreso when you're up against enemies who are organised and hunting you.  A smart enemy will wait until their quarry is at their most vulnerable...sleeping at an isolated inn would be a good bet - then they would strike.

Hawke's a badass, no doubt.  But there's not much you can do if you wake with a Templar Hunter's dagger is already at your neck.  Or if an apostate mage burns down the inn, then paralyses Hawke as they run out.  Or any number of other concievable scenarios.  Heavily armoured Templars could wear a lightly armed Hawke down by strength of numbers and sheer ability to take damage.  Hell, a blood mage could use mind control to make Hawke come "willingly"...unlike the Warden, Hawke has no knowledge of the Litany of Ardalla.

But no, I'm sure Hawke is actually, realistically, a one person army, and even if an actual army were sent against them and they were alone, with nothing but their undergarments on and armed with a rusty spoon, they would triumph.  Because thats the more reasonable outcome.

Warden and Hawke have gotten captured in their respective games in the past, don't know why people are getting upset. Hawke is still a human and could have very well gotten caught in a very good ambush.

There could be several reasons for his capture i guess, he might even have surrendered peacefully.

I mean, take my Hawke as an example. I romanced Merrill, and the Templars may very well have captured her first, threatening to kill her unless Hawke turns himself in. The Hawke i played would've turned himself in without hesitation.

To me this sounds like a plausible reason for his capture. I suppose this could be true for all sorts of playthroughs, considering Hawke's dealing with an enemy that's hellbent on ruining his/her life (quite literally) and surely able to find an equivalent to my Hawke's Merrill.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Hawke doesn't exist in a vaccum, s/he does have people s/he cares about. Even if they don't romance anyone, the ones who captured them could have threatened her/his surviving sibling. If s/he doesn't have one, then Aveline, if not Aveline, it's been 3 years since we last saw them, they may have gained another friend in that time.

TBH, it's what I would do as a villain and was trying to take down someone who was capable of such destruction, and giving myself up is what I'd do as a hero in that situation

Mine did too but it took 30 minutes of running around that stupid column, trying not to die, while his Dog bit at the Arishok's heels.  :P

Those handful of Templar Joes were wearing the most powerful plot-armours forged by the hottest flame inside the heart of Mt. Bioware Edmonton.

Not even plot armor was able to keep Kai Leng alive. And that character had an actual name. These nameless henchmen don't stand a chance.

Hawke could be travelling alone. Remember how Hawke got easily captured in Mark of the assassin?

A DLC I never played.

Also I probably would have had just as much of a problem with that DLC if this actually occured for the same exact reason.

You seem to complain about "human" things happening to the Protaganist a lot. He wasn't exactly alone when he did that.

I complain about human things happening to a superhuman who previously demonstrated that she exists at a level above and beyond the capabilities of a regular human. That's why this sort of thing is completely ludicrous.

This is about on par with a bunch of normal Joes abducting and executing superman even though none of them had any Kryptonite.

At some point the author needs to accept that capabilities of the character prevents them from using easy plot devices. Which really isn't a loss because some of this plot devices are overused anyways.

Except Hawke has never been shown to be superhuman? Exceptional and superhuman aren't the same thing. This is the equivalent to a bunch of peasants capturing King George. Very much possible.

Hawkes not superhuman. Hawke is simply a human who is very skilled at fighting, but no matter how skilled you are, you're still human.

I do love the assumption that Hawke was essentially captured by mooks, which seems to be a running theme in this thread.

Because, of course, its not like Red Lyrium enchanced Templars or Magisters of the Tevinter Imperium are running amok.

That just makes them mooks now. That's like saying most demons are challenging, so they aren't mooks.

*Rogue Hawke stands before a Templar Commander, arms chained behind her back. Another Templar tries to explain what happened*

Commander: I sent you with an entire company!

Templar:  Maám, you don't understand, she was everywhere!  A bloody knife coming out of every shadow.  We couldn't pin her down! She's a damned demon!

Hawke: Flatterer.

Templar: She spent the better half of the day picking us off one by one.  I've never seen anything like it.

Commander: Maker... How did you catch her.

Hawke: Oh, I can answer that one!  My one of my knives got stuck in that fat guy.

Templar:  His name was Rodrick, and he was my best friend!

Hawke:  My condolences.  But, anyways, my knife got stuck in his dead, fat friend, and I got knocked out by this handsome gentleman.

Commander:  Make your jokes, fool.  You'll stand trial and face execution for your crimes.

Hawke:  Ooohhhh, goodie.  Another Templar with a chip on her shoulder.  Haven't seen that before.

Great, so no mention of the LI's at all? I mean, Hawke can't be alone for two seconds without something bad happening, can he?
