So, rumor has it (rumor on the forum and other places of the internet) that

Blackwall may not actually be who he says he is: Blackwall, The Grey Warden, and instead, is a person who was inspired by tales, and wanted to be a Grey Warden since childhood, but just...could never reach that position (so far) in his life. So instead, he assumed the role of a famous Grey Warden called Blackwall, or, made the entire heroic persona up (aka he's a con-man of sorts, not for...bad reasons, just, yeah...)

 

He is apparently very evasive on several aspects when you question him in-game, and apparently, some of his stories don't match up at all about his time in the Grey Wardens and about The Fifth Blight.

 

How do you feel about this?

I didn't saw that coming, I'll give you that (if proven true, that is). But, I actually would find it amusing. And I would also feel a little sorry for Blackwall.

Don't know, but if the guy has the guts to kill people, can't see why he shouldn't have the guts to undergo the Joining.
Afterall, to be a Grey Warden you don't need to kiss college professor asses or ****** yourself.

Honestly that would make him more interesting to me. Just from watching the streams he's my least favourite companion on first impressions and a backstory like that would make me more willing to spend time exploring his character imo.

He came across a little shady in the recruitment video I saw. Some of the things he said didn't add up; the real Blackwall was Warden-Constable in Montsimmard during the Blight, but this Blackwall said he fought in Ferelden. If he was in Ferelden then, why didn't he join up with Riordan or seek out the Warden and Alistair? When asked where the Wardens might have disappeared to he mentioned Weisshaupt; why not Vigil's Keep or Soldier's Peak as possible locations?

 

If he is an imposter, hopefully we can help him become an actual Warden by the end of the game.

Thats awesome. Hope I can pull in a few favors with Loghain and make him a Warden to join team Warden (Carver and Loghain)

I confess I didn't see this one coming, and I'm not sure how to feel about that. I still respect him though, and perhaps admire him even more now that he acts like the heroic Grey Warden of old, and the irony is he is not even a Warden. I hope I can fulfill his dream and grant him a chance to be a Warden for real. I think it's odd why he's traveling alone unless he went AWOL, and some of his stories don't match up at all about his time in the Grey Wardens or his role during The Fifth Bligh. (If this rumor proven true, however) 

I like some people theory about his background, and it make me want to learning more about him.

Personally I think that makes him more interesting I dunno how to handle it personally I am leaning on making him drop the lies so he could be his own hero he does not need to be a grey warden to have those values or to inspire people.

Honestly, I admire him even more if the tales about the Grey Warden of old inspire Blackwall, and assuming that rumor is true of course.

I feel the same as many here. I would admire him even more and hopefully we could have him undertake the joining by the end of his character arc.

I'm not sure I like the idea of him being a liar or delusional and a con-man. I hope this isn't true, or I will definitely not have the respect for the character that I did previously. There are already enough problems and shenanigans in the GW in DAI as it is...I really wanted this heroic character to actually be heroic in the traditional sense and be 100% legit. Will wait and see.

You're telling me that Blackwall's background is basically the same as The Soldier's from Team Fortress 2, a fact which is just brutally hilarious.

 

Just hope I can give him the (Pete Holmes') Professor X treatment for this. I will fully understand if he leaves my team!
