It appear Solas is behind the explosion, the Breach, and will be a Traitor later in the game. If your relationship is high enough after his betrayal, you can convince him to return to the Inquistion and atone for his crime by helping you to stop the Elder One. Thus he lives and works hard toward atoning for his crimes by working with the Inquisition to undo the damage he has done to the world.

 

If your friendship is not high enough or you choose the options that does not ask him to return and atone for his crimes then you will be forced to kill Solas.

 

It is basically a Zevran moment all over again

Wow, what a shocker!  There are just twists all in this game, apparently. Awww, that's really going to sucker punch the people who have their Inquisitors romance him without knowing this ahead of time. I feel really bad for them as it's basically Anders all over again, only SO much worse as Solas kills literally thousands, including the Divine!!!! Makes Anders look like a bloody boyscout. Do you have a link to something that reveals this?

...never trust an elf (or a mage). If it proves true, he'll go the same way as Zevran did in my playthrough(s) and I'm definitely looking forward to kill him off.

About Solas: It is wild speculation at this point with no proof other than hearsay. Everyone is posting it like it is fact. I think it could be true, but it's making people jump to all kinds of conclusions and make prejudgments about a character who is worth getting to know. I've heard even crazier theories about him. Several reviewers consider him one of their favorite characters, and that is fact.

So ya the Explosion really was the Inquisitor's fault and would have never happened if he or she didn't confront Corypheus and Solas.

 

However, if Inq had not done so the Veil would have been destroyed and Corypheus would have began his plan to acend into the Black City

I remember the original post was in the forum but was removed from the forum quite early for unknown reasons (guess it was too much info) 

 

As for the part of the explosion it will be revealed early in the game before you move to Skyhold during the 1st encounter with Cory.

Urg. Too much conflicting info then.

 

I will be reading about every companion in my game guide before I start playing on Monday. This game is just too big and requires too many hours for me to stumble around blindly and pick choices with outcomes I will hate. My philosophy where any BioWare game is concerned: spoilers and meta-knowledge FTW!

Yeah...I'd be a bit disappointed too, because a veteran Grey Warden was something I was looking seriously forward to.

 

It would've been a nice change to the young and/or naive Wardens like Alistair and potential Bethany/Carver....... And Anders

This has been my basic theory ever since we heard about his background.

Apostate mage spontaneously breaking from his isolated existence to help us out?  Out of the goodness of his hear?  We went down this road with Morrigan, remember how that turned out?

  About Blackwall, well, I didn't see that coming.  Though I guess this would explain why we don't have to worry about him falling under you-know-who's influence.

His reasons has been quite clear that he aim to one day allow Spirits and Mortals live in peace and he believe the reason peace never happens is because the Veil prevents Spirits and Mortals from understanding each other due to separation. Corytheus offered him a chance in that but it was a trick and Corypheus used Solas ideals of seeking peace with Spirits and Mortals to progress his goals

Hmmm.

Blackwalls convos don't match up at all with what we know about the fifth blight and the wardens. His evasive nature is also very questionable. The chances of him simply being a cosplayer is very high right now(and I much prefer it as it's far more interesting imo)
