After I read those files I was in 100% sure that Blackwall is indeed imposter.

But now I have doubtes .

Him, not being actual Warden isn't logical:

- He's one of best warriors. He's good enough to be our companion, yes? He could just ask nicely the nearest Warden to recruit him.

- Artwork shows that he has Grey Warden's necklace. He is also wearing  Warden's armor. That means he is Grey Warden or he killed one of them.

 

So here are all options:

- He isn't Grey Warden.

- He was recruited by Wardens but left before The Joining.

- He was Grey Warden but left quickly.

- He was Grey Warden but left not so long ago.

- He is Grey Warden, who started to pretend Blackwall after some time.

 

As far we know - he isn't real Blackwall. He is also travelling alone. You have to be quite important to do that. You have to be... Warden-Constable!

He is too heroic to be good Grey Warden. Good Grey Warden is e.g. Stroud.

I think Blackwall is Grey Warden's fugitive who took real Blackwall's identity and possible killed him. Why? Because he lives by old saying - "All that is necessary for the thriumph of evil is that good men do nothing". That doesn't match with Grey Wardens' rule. You know. Rule that exist thanks to other old saying - "We have to do our mission so  we don't care about whole country being slaughtered by qunari". Even Stroud hardly did that.

So, Blackwall is an actual Grey Warden who was in Orlais, not Ferelden, during the Blight.  It sounds like the one we see in DA: I is an imposter who either found him dead or killed him, and then assumed his identity.

I'm a bit surprised, and that video sure asked a lot of questions.  If speculation is true, it will change how I think about him, but not necessarily for the worse.  I'm definitely looking forward to finding out more about him.

I just remembered something that could be relevant to this whole speculation...what about this?

 

 

Perhaps the real thing he was hiding is that he isn't a Warden anymore, and despite claiming he still is one he left on...bad terms? 

 

As for differences in the story...

 

Not proud of what he did, perhaps? Maybe having been alone away from the order after leaving it gave him some time to think back, and he decided the Blackwall who left Ferelden to its fate isn't the Blackwall he wanted people to see him as. So he made up some other persona, one more in line with the stories and fairy tales.

I think we're all reaching at this point, lol.

 

 

I guess we'll see soon enough. Maybe we're all wrong. :S

It makes the character quote from his promotional image a little more contextually appropriate.  "All a Warden is is a promise.  To protect others...even at the cost of your own life."  If you think about him trying to backpedal out of being caught in his lie, trying to pull the whole "Warden is just a title" card is a realistic human response.

Crossed over too late to help Warden and co in Denerim? He'd probably have gone over after Riordan did.

Remember those were a new breed of darkspawn that shot black flames out of their mouths via the taint! So he did not exactly have time to help out the warden during DAO.

It's an interesting theory, but I just can't see them turning around and saying 'Hey you know all that Warden stuff we told you about Blackwall pre-release? Well that was all a lie. Here's the real Blackwall!'

They haven't really focused on him at all, though, Blackwall's almost been treated as an afterthought a lot of the time.

Not as much as the others, no, but he's been pushed as a veteran Warden since we first saw him, and they've said in the streams he's a wandering Warden recruiter. Would seem a rather cheap way to make a plot twist to just go back on everything we've been told from the devs.
