As far as I know, the tatoos are there to show others what clan you belong to.  Sorry I could not be more informative

You're wrong, I'm afraid. Each tattoo represents a different dalish god. Bioware's never specified which tattoo correlates to which god, but there've been a few people with some decent guesses. I'll see if I can't fish up a link.

They represent an elven god.
Here is how most agreed it was for the DAO vallaslin.

But as you can see, some have changed, but others' like Ghilain'nain's and Elgar'nan's and Andruil's are more or less the same.

If I had to guess, I'd say from top left, we have 2 Falon'dins, 2 Andruils, 1 Sylaise, 1 Mythal, 1 Ghilain'nain, another Sylaise, 2 Dirthamens, 2 Elgar'nans and 3 Junes

I like that there's an Elgar'nan without the half-face mask part. Always felt that ended up looking tacky.

Pretty sure those last three are a re-done Dirthamen, from the style of the patterns. They seem to have changed both Mythal and Dirthamen a fair bit. I like it though, I'm almost certainly going for Ghilannain, as it's so pretty, but I have to say that the new first Dirthamen variant is tempting, it looks like a tree. And somewhat fitting as you're supposed to be a spy.

I'm glad Ghilan'nain's is of the ones that are always easy to identify since her story best matches my Inquisitor's personality.

I have no idea, my best guess would be the one that is assumed to be Ghilan'nain from the images above.

I think the last three are June because his story specifically mentions trees. They are also arguably the most similar to the original June designs which showed the bent trees.

Same here. I just need conformation that the tattoo I believe represents Dithamen, is in fact the tattoo that represents Dirthamen. Boy I wish marketing never got their grubby little hands on that chart

I want to know too because there are some I like a lot more than others (although I don't dislike any of them). I like the first two and the last three especially but I don't think my character would go for Mythal or Ghilan'Nain. Either Falon'Din or Dirthamen would be the best fit for him.

the creators of dragonage haven't said what they mean, but some fans have guessed to which are which, and they seem pretty accurate,
