I have just managed to get a friend into DA:O, she loves it and is progressing through it now. I am wondering what the best thing to do for her is regarding the Keep. I have advised her that she should play Awakening and the other DLC but suggested leaving DA:2 and going straight to Inquisition.

Should I set up a world state for her based on the choices I believe she would have made in DA2 (I have had a few discussions re-her morality compass) or should I just leave the choices as default given the intent of the default options was to lean towards closing down plots for the sake of people who haven't done them.... any thoughts?

Given that events in Inquisition spawn directly from choices made in DA2, I strongly suggest having your friend at least make her way through the main storyline (or at least watch a video which summarizes the whole affair).

Failing that, I would suggest going through the choices with your friend. Perhaps you could quickly summarize what each choice entailed and see if she can make a decision. If not, then I would likely go with the default world state.

Myself, I'd let her play how she wanted.  It is, after all, just a game.  If she's interested enough she'll go back and play through the other games to find out what she missed.   It happened with me with ME.  It'll happen with her.

Dragon age 2 was a necessary step to set up for inquisition. If she is not gonna play it. I'd go for a pro mage playthrough. I feel like it would make the most sense. Or just use the default save.

I'd advise her to atleast give DA2 a shot, if she hates it and gives up, then just go with the default, but DA2 seems too connected to inquisition to just blow off completely.

No, man, don't have her skip DA2. It's fun! And hey, you can get it pretty cheap now. And a person could beat it in about two or three days. I know, I know... people have their complaints. Reused areas. Limited character interaction. Stupid inventory.

But the storyline is great. Plus, that's when you first meet Varric and Cassandra and they're a huge part of DA:I. Plus the whole issue between the mages vs templars is explained. That wasn't as central of a theme in DA:O. But "mage vs templar" will be a big part of DA:I. It'd be nice to know the whole setup. DA2 is kind of like a bad season in the middle of a great TV series. You have to watch it in order to piece together all the rest of the good stuff.

DA2 is probably more connected to DAI than Origins, your friend should play that game tbh.

I'd say playing DA2 and its DLCs is more important than playing DAO and Awakening for DAI... And DA2 storyline and characters are great.

I get all the story stuff but it is 35 hours long... with the interesting story stuff particularly fitting into an hour worth of youtube.... I get that we are all incredibly excited about DA... excited enough that we are on a forum about it days before the game releases... But for other people who do have lives and a 20-30 hour game may spread a month, it may not be worth delaying their enjoyment of inquisition over... just saying.

I'd say give your friend this guide that PC gamer made with a bit of background for the choices in the Keep and take it from there. Not having played 2, she won't notice anything that might be a little "off" anyway. http://www.pcgamer.c...age-keep-guide/

Really?

I'd be excited to have two games to play through over the winter season vs. just one.

I suggest keeping the world state of DA2 default. It elmininates spoilers for her with da2 which she might want to play later. It eliminates any problems of "Why did you pick X I would have picked Y," arguments or "If I had acually know teh details of X i would have pick Y choice over Z choice." She hasn't played DA2 so she ISN'T invested in the world state like you are. Its perfectly fine for her to have no control over those choices because she never made the choices in the first place. All the content of DA2 is just background lore for her. It doesn't matter if the tempars won or the mages won for her either option is simply game history, much like the exalted marches against the elves. I don't feel cheated for reading about Nelson at trafalgar because well I was never there and never made the choice that resulted in that history. DA2 will have the same impact regarless of their moral impact simply because she never made the choices so the results of those choices hold no special meaning to her because she never had agency over the choices.

Neither, you should let her play through DA2, see the context, and make her own choices in-game.
