Oh. I downloaded both a video of the last gen and next gen version and have them set so I can flip back and forth on a playlist in my media player, it's how I've been comparing. They both end a little bit past when Varric joins you for the first time after closing the first little breach. Didn't bother to watch anything else, I saw what I needed to compare.

Fair enough, but in terms of NPCs' presence the difference is bigger later on.

Even bigger than a 24 to 10, roughly a 60%, reduction? I can't believe that. You can't get a much bigger difference than that without there being literally zero NPCs.

From the start Bioware said that on last gen will be less NPC and graphics reduce which for me is ok. If game will be stable and playable I don't care for those disappeared NPC. Well... in the end they are no speakable XD
There's gonna be only important NPC in the game.

I think it will have a big impact on the game especially noting a common positive theme across reviews was that the world felt alive. Take npcs away and you will lose that.

I agree that world will be less alive, but the whole story will be full. I was afraid that they gonna cut some thing for last gen. Something from something - less graphic and npc but full story and maps (probably XD).

The story is supposed To be full. Mike confirmed This to me yesterday. Since he didn't respond to me Saturday when I tweeted him the last gen pictures, I guess he wasn't comfortable talking about the graphics, but he was about the story. So the Latter shouldn't suffer.

Ive seen the section in Haven that you mentioned. In last gen, there was one guard outside the house. In next gen there was a crowd of people outside, flanked by more guards. The difference seems to be massive. Will still play it on 360 however because i dont have a choice. And Im sure ill enjoy it. I just need to stop watching next gen walkthrough videos!

Yup, that was the part With the biggest difference.
In the cutscene, instead, the numbers (though I didn't check) seem the same, Which is probably What Lead to problems in loading textures.

Can you screencap the difference? Do you know how to?

I don't have a computer Right now. I'm on the phone.
I think You can watch the first minute of the video without spoiling yourself. There's no spoiler in it.

Actually, watch only the first 13 seconds of that video.

That won't help me on its own. I need to see the actual comparison myself. Just seeing one leaves me lacking context about how many NPCs the other version has.

Yeah, didn't think of that.
Hopefully someone will post the shots.
I can tell you later the minutes and seconds where the same scene is seen in the next gen prologue, but I don't know if it can help you.

Spoiler

That's the part I'm worried about. I think it's cool standing in a crowd of training soldiers with constant clinking of armor and swords, so I will be quite displeased if that part lacks NPCs. Indeed, that will be the one and only part where it will really bug me if it's lacking in them.

the guy in the gameplay just complained about dumb stuff like his archer, which he chose, not having any melee moves lmao

Considering the fact that in quite a few games an archer has a default melee attack if enemies get too close, I can see that as a valid complaint. Dragon Age 2 had that option but its now gone I guess.

Did not this guy get the game from a friend? I did not even know it was possible to get the game yet on PS3. Therefore It may lack a few things? Like npc:s etc.

The same happens on 360. And Why they'd lack Something? We know there'll be less NPCs, and people that tried the game did mention that the NPCs problems (and I trust LadyInsanity, so i doubt she was lying).
I honestly doubt his version will lack anything. I'll be glad To be wrong, but I seriously doubt it's going To be any different.

Ok! It is not a big problem what so ever for me in any case. I was just thinking that if he got the game on PS3 it maybe was a unfinished product or something like that since I did not know you could get that version of it. Never mind!

That scene is pretty much ruined on 360/PS3. I was expecting less NPCs but that is a huge cut in numbers, it turns what is a first taste of support by the people for your Inquisitor into a pointless solitary walk up to the Chantry .....that would make me worry about the rest of the game really.  Haven is a busy place on the next gen consoles/PC but it looks like a ghost town on last gen.

The starting camp in the Hinterlands is the same, hardly anybody there, its packed with troops waiting to move into the hinterlands on the next gen.

Did you see the whole ps3 video? After the end of the prologue, how much different Haven is on next gen (compared to the bit we saw in the ps3 video)?

I watched the whole PS3 video (three parts I believe) and the prologue up to the point where you leave your cabin is pretty similiar to the next gen (apart from the obvious graphical issues), if you do not leave immediately (or return at any point) for the hinterlands you can look around Haven first and get some side quests to improve the Inquisition, get some resources to build weapons and armour, talk to companions/advisors etc. There are a lot of NPCs busy around Haven and there is a feeling that even in the beginning that its the base of operations for your forces.

I'd have to see a video of the same area after the prologue to be sure, but if the crowd scene is an indication of how many NPCs are around Haven then your companions, advisors, merchants, healer etc that you can talk to in and around Haven are going to outumber the background NPCs who add so much to the atmosphere of the place. It makes Kirkwall in DA2 feel over populated.

The layout of Haven from what I can see seems to be the same as the next gen, just minus all the background people.
