Made for Ostagar after learning of the Blight to join the Grey Wardens there but arrived too late. Stayed to fight against the darkspawn and survived the battle of Denerim. Templars learned of his apostate status and captured him. Sent to the Circle in Starkhaven to await Tranquility. Managed to escape when the Circle burned, and was then rescued from Templar pursuers by Tal-Vashoth mercenaries. Signed a contract with them and went from there.

Studying the ways of a Dalish Keeper, honing her mastery of magic against whatever Darkspawn assailed her tribe.
Probably nurturing a pretty big hate-on for the Champion of Kirkwall if she happened to learn of Hawke's slaughter of an entire Dalish tribe.

See this is the thing. I am totally with you on this OP. I always create a backstory for my characters in RPG's. However, to do that I need to have some understanding as to why the character is thrust into the story in the first place, then I can construct a pathway of how they got there.
Unfortunately I don't know enough about the circumstances at the start of the story to do that. Ah well, will have to think about it after I start the game. ![]()

Canon Inquisitor: Travelling the Free Marches and Rivain with the Valo-kas mercenary group, whom he considers family. Along the way, he was collecting every tome and text he could get his hands on as to learn as much as he could about Thedas: the land he's enamored with.
Pro-Templar Inquisitor: Working with the Carta with the lyrium trade. She didn't enjoy it, but she was also converting to Andrastianism after a run in with the Sisters of a local chantry.
Pro-Mage Inquisitor: He was learning the ways of Dalish magic after having fled from the Circle of Magi. Despite joining a Dalish clan, he still felt like he must help his former brothers and sisters of the Circles.
Entrepreneurial Inquisitor: Third-in-line in a noble house of Ostwick, this Inquisitor cared less about the Chantry or religion, and more about how to gain enough power to step out of the shadow of their siblings. (I still am working on what gender and personality, this playthrough will have.
Kill Everything! Inquisitor: She wanted to smash things...that's all I got.

Travelling Thedas from town to town with a small band of Vashoth, either a town/village forbids their stay or they are allowed to stay out of fear. After staying from village to village seeing how the feudal system works, he begins brew a hate for it along with the mistreatment of the lower defenseless class after seeing how easy it is to force your power on them with no repercussions.
His band decides to stay in a particular town but things seem to be going so well, they decide to stay a bit longer which eventually turns to years. The Marquis of the area takes interest in the company of qunari, both for being there to scare off any threats so due to his history as a Chevalier and due to their "exotic nature". He decides to train them as his line of defense in exchange for shelter, this intrigues my qunari because he finally feels like he is given a purpose when he's finally at an age where he himself can actually begin to make a difference, especially after years of seeing abuse of power that he had no choice but to watch. While somewhat softening the initial stigma my Qunari see's in nobility, the Marquis constantly treats him as a prized possession that the Marquis shows off to visiting nobles, feeding into my qunaris expectations in their arrogance and false senses of superiority, while also teaching him how to play the Orlesian social game, understanding how to lie, flatter, even seduce (of course all being a facade for the ever growing disgust he has for them).
Years later when after excelling to leader of the Marquis's militia, the Orlesian civil war starts, the Marquis in response, demands his militia and peasants to be outfitted and set off in support of Gasbard. My qunari seeing that the peasant being forced into this will no doubt lead to unnecessary casualties as they have little to no experience due to half of them being either too young or too old, he refuses to lead them. While the peasant party supports this decision, his fellow qunari do not, they feel that years of hard work to finally have a place to call home, is not worth throwing away now. The Marquis directly becomes involved, insulted that his "most prized" qunari of the group would disobey him after all these years, he exiles him at the threat that he will have the peasant militia killed anyways for their incompetence. Reluctantly leaving, he decides to go back around nightfall where he returns to mend the tattered relationship just to stumble upon a pit of corpses which he immediately recognizes to be the peasants, the Marquis had them killed anyways.
During that night, my qunari can see that his old band along with the other militia and knights are all drunk preparing for their campaign in the civil war, taking the opportunity, he finds the Marquis alone, forcing himself onto a village girl when he crushes the Marquis throat, making sure he dies slowly as revenge for those he slaughtered. The girl immediately screams but he is beyond their reach by the time they can get their drunk minds to form a search party.
Knowing that his only real skill is in combat and leading in combat, he see's that the Mercenary life is the only field he can actually excel in at all, joining a group and once again travelling Thedas aimlessly.
(WOW that ended up much longer than i thought)

Anders:
During origins he was on her 8th escape from Ferelden Circle... during DA2 he was doing gray warden stuff when he got framed by the selfish spirit that inhabited Kristoff... Sadly since warden broke with Velhanna he went into the search for the Black haired one that loved him: Morrigan.
With no Commander to testify in favor of Anders, King Alistair was stuck between the sword and the wall. Also being a Gray Warden too a negative to imprison Anders will had bring another siege for the new Warden base of operations Virgil's Keep. Alistair decided to send Anders to clean his name by helping the chantry just until they find the imposter and send him to the guillotine.

My second Inquisitor is a Qunari Warrior, born in 8:97 Blessed. By 9:30, she had taken over her parents' mercenary company, the Blades of Ash. The company fought at Ostagar, and after Cailan's death, she organized the retreat. In doing so, she saved many, including Hawke, Carver, Aveline, and Wynne. However, her mercenary company was wiped out. She found work throughout the Blight killing darkspawn, and saw action at the Battle of Denerim. Afterwards, she travelled Thedas in search of work, before finally getting a permanent position as a Lieutenant in the Valo-Kas.
