In short yet again Bioware has given its UK PC DAI customer base the short end of the stick when it comes to DAI digital editions being purchased on the Origin Store, here are the reasons:

1)Due to the exchange rate when a customer purchases the Digital Deluxe edition that USA customers get for $60 EA/Bioware pockets $96.21c for every Digital Deluxe Edition a UK customer buys.

2)To add insult to injury despite being able to preload the game on the 17th of November we have to wait till the 21st Nov with the USA getting it on the 18th and the EU( Which the UK was a fonding member of and is still part of) getting it on the 20th.The excuse generally given is to "avoid angering brick and mortar stores" when none of the "brick and mortar stores" in the UK sell/stock the PC version of the game unless you go and specifically place a order for a copy.

3)Despite EA getting a additional $36 from UK Customers XB1 customers are given access 5 days in advance to the first 6hrs of gameplay what do PC customers get ? Nothing!.

I'd appreciate if someone from Bioware would at least refer this up the chain to changing policy for its UK/EU PC Customers who buy digital editions of their games giving us access to the game that we have paid for at the same time as the USA customers. The current system as it stands is simply a unacceptable way to treat its UK PC customers who are quite frankly getting tired of games companies treating us like a 3rd world country.

1) Why is this thread here? It has nothing to do with the Keep.

2) EA can't allow you to play the game earlier because the big retail stores won't allow it, you see, if EA allowed customers in the UK to play the digital copy on the 18th, then GAME and other stores would loose big, a lot less people would purchase the discs copy. And this is practice that is for better or worse followed by all the publishers as far as I know. Now, you are free to think this is just an excuse, I on the other hand find really hard to believe that big retail stores wouldn't stock a game like this (small independent, those very well might but those are not the ones EA is afraid of).

3) EA Access is a paid service.

4) No one in Bioware has anything to do with any of this as the Bioware is just a developer, not a publisher.

apoligies for posting in wrong section, regardless point 2 still stands.I said specifically for the PC customers in the UK Customers buying the console version can pick up DAI off the shelf of any chain/independent game store or supermarket, the same can not be said for the PC version no chain/independent game stores or supermarkets stock or even sell the PC version so when it comes to the PC version there are no "brick and mortar" stores to anger or cheat out of business. so why should the PC customers be punished not only on price but on a system designed to benefit stores that dont sell the product the customer wants on the platform that they want.

Are you talking in DAI in general or about the special editions?

The issue actually has to with games traditionally being released on fridays in the UK so people can have time to play the game and not be distracted during the weekday. I don't know the exact details but googling "Why are games always released on fridays" should give you an more coherent answer.

This has nothing to do with EA/bioware and retailers is a minor component.

DAI in general if I wanted one of the console ports I can walk into any Supermarket/gamesstore and pick up a copy of DAI, however you can't even get a standard edition of DAI for the PC from the shelf of any store in the UK.

For example if I wanted the Standard Edition of DAI for PC from a Store I have to spend time and money going into the store and talk to the assistant or manager who then has to order it from a distributor on a per copy basis, they keep no stock in at all.Which is why I have for years bought all my PC games as digital downloads from Steam/Uplay/Origin.If the PC version was available off the shelf as the console versions are there would not be an issue.

Because of the extra time and expense of having to go to a store and specially order a game for a platform that they don't cater for at all there was never a sale to be "lost" in the first place. So as a result I have to sit on my hands for 4 days with the game on my hard drive that I have paid for unable to play it purely to benefit the "brick and mortar" stores that don't sell PC games at all.To add insult to injury the pricing on Origin does not take account of currency differences. On the UK Origin Store the Digital Deluxe Edition I bought is £60 which at the £/$ which hasn't changed much in over 10yrs is currently worth $96.12c.The release also treats the UK as a different region to the EU when we are not only 1 of the founding members of the EU but still an active member,we just dont use their currency.

That no longer applies to PC games in the UK which are not available in any store in the UK unless you make a special order, unlike the console ports you cant just walk in to a store and pick a PC port or a multiplat off the shelf like you can with the console port.Since as the "brick and mortar" stores don't cater for PC gamers anymore how is it harming those stores by allowing me to play the game I have paid for on the day I'm allowed to download it (17th Nov) instead of having to wait another 4 days to benefit a system that no longer caters to PC gamers?.

My core point is that having paid for the game, I'm permitted to pre-load the game on the 17th Nov if I choose and yet for no sensible or logical reason I and every other UK customer is locked out of playing the game on our hard drives because the brick and mortar stores that do not sell the PC version of DAI( the one we have bought) might get upset.

As I said before, it has less to do with brick and mortar but the traditional release date for games in the UK. This goes for both physical and digital copies. Sorry but you don't get special privileges all because you're on a PC and getting it digital, you get the game at the same time as everyone else in your country.  (unless you use a VPN) Letting you pre-load is just a courtesy, a fun extra.

If the situation was flipped and US got the game later the situation would still stand. People who got the pre-load in the US would still have to wait for their release date just because that's how things work in that country. Really you need to focus your question towards media release practices in the UK and not EA/bioware

Is this really the only game for this to happen? I know EU gamers often get hosed because games will cost the same number of US Dollars as Euros.

Oh wow you mean UK gamers are getting the shaft on game prices...

Welcome to the club mate, you can complain about it after 20 Years of having inflated prices on all games not just digital deluxe editions.

Come to Australia home of the 30% gamer tax and getting digital games is difficult since most AAA games take up a quarter of a months bandwidth limit, and count yourself lucky you're not in Brazil I think the price of a console over there is close to $2000.

Tbh, there are quite a few both bigger and smaller publishers who are releasing the world globally at the same time (Activision-Blizzard and ZeniMax for an example (ZeniMax is the owner of Bethesda)), so I am pretty sure that EA, if they wanted to, could go through with it. Furthermore, Bioware is part of EA, so there is nothing wrong by placing it here, aside from it being in totally the wrong topic though.

The PC deluxe edition is $70 dollars in the US. Add the 20% VAT on that and you are at $84 already. £59.99 is $93, which means they are only marking up $9.

American gamers pay state sales tax as well, by the way. It's just not listed on the store sites, but instead calculated at checkout.

You're also leaving aside the fact that EA/BioWare games-- including VAT-- were cheaper in the UK until this one, which means that they were making considerably less per game than they were in the US.

EA is heavily in the market of games like sports games etc which have a huge retail presence. I don't like the retail date at all, but I put the blame right on the shoulders of those outdated retailers (which are rubbish anyway; I detest Game).
