This is a very mild spoiler for DAI. If you've watched most of the trailers, then it's not, but just in case...

Spoiler

So, needless to say, having a custom world state is important! :D

That makes sense up to a point, I guess. If you haven't got a custom-built World State, it's likely you never played DA2 and so you won't have any attachment to a particular look for Hawke.

Where some people might have an issue, I suppose, is if they just want to play the game out of the box with all its default settings, but still have their own character turn up. I can't imagine there'll be many of those but, for anyone who does, they can rename the Default World State in the Keep and import that, I imagine.

Useful to know, anyway. Thanks for the info.

P.S. I notice he's still using the "if" word ...!

I believe as long as you export a world state from the keep(if you change all the tiles, some or none doesn't matter), then you can change Hawke's appearance

Are you really really sure? I can't stand Hawkes female VA, (apologies to the actor but it's just way to snarky and as usual with the female VA's the mean choices just fall a tad flat compared, I mean theres others but still) so I don't have a custom female Hawke. Wanted to give her another shot at it but meh.
Also you still get to choose male/female right? Whether CC or not?

If you meet Hawke in DAI, the game will check if you have a custom world from the Keep. THAT is what triggers face customization for Hawke.

Mike Laidlaw ‏@Mike_Laidlaw

Any state from the Keep will do. If you use the default non-keep state, you will get a default Hawke, as there is no custom data.

User

What if we use a custom world state with a default Hawke?

Mike Laidlaw ‏@Mike_Laidlaw

If you use the keep, then you will still be able to select the default face for your Hawke's gender if you wish.

User

@Mike_Laidlaw If we didn't sync our data do we get the default Hawke? Since the syncing broke for me.

Mike Laidlaw ‏@Mike_Laidlaw

Syncing does not matter. DAI checks for a non-default world state.

You decide Hawke's gender in the keep.

If you export a world state from the keep, you have the choice to change Hawke's appearance or not.

If use the default world state that is in the game, you can't change Hawke's appearance.

Mike also said that previous hairstyles of your Hawkes will not be available(no cornrolls for my Hawke :().

 Well my Hawke and Warden were related so I had them have the same hairstyle, so hopefully if the Warden does make an appearance in DLC. they both can have different hairstyles.(Hope they can add more hairstyles down the line)

Ok but can you choose Hawkes Gender/class without the Keep? If not what is the Default?

You can't choose without the keep.

Male Mage Hawke

(I think when you create a new world state in the Keep, it starts out as the default setting that is already implemented in the game (Female Elf sacrificing herself, Male Mage Hawke siding with mages).

Nice! I would like to tweak the default face a bit, since I don't find it to be very similar to DA2's.

So then I assume the same is true for Dragon Age Origins characters? What if we were using a mod for our hair style? My portrait currently shows only half of my characters face; the hair missing entirely. What happens then?

Right now it doesn't matter since the Warden doesn't have a physical appearance in DA:I game.

What do you mean with custom world state? I loaded my Hawke from DA2 and made all my decisions in the default world state. Do I have to create a second one?

A world state created in the keep is a custom world state. You don't have to create a second one of you don't want to. Your first world state you created is fine.

Keep world state allows players to change Hawke's appearance

non-Keep world state doesn't allow players to change Hawke's appearance and they get Male Mage Hawke(default face).

the only thing that matters is an import right? It doesn't matter if you change anything or not?

According to Mike Laidlaw, yes. All you have to do is import a world state from the Keep and you will be able to change Hawke's appearance.

Do know that if you want Male Hawke or Female Hawke (and which class they are) you need to change that in the keep.

In the keep

Change Hawke's gender and class

If import a world state from keep, then you can change Hawke's appearance

if you use default state that is already given to you in the game, then you cannot change Hawke's appearance and will always be Male Mage

When they say you can change Hawke's appearance, does that mean the keep imports the custom face or do you have to manually re-create it?  If it's the latter then that sounds like a bit of an inconvenience.

Have to recreate the face.(Makes sense becuase they are using a new engine and added a lot of new things to CC (inner and outer iris) Also some previous looks can't recreated(No cornrolls for my Hawke if the hair selections are the same as human Inquisitor hair selections)
