They aren't. In fact they quit the Chantry in the first 30 minutes of the game. You also do have to be voted in.

Voted in by the Grand Clerics, most of whom are now dead. Even if the rule still stands, I hardly think the remaining GCs would be opposed to electing either one of Justinia's left or right hands who helped save Thedas and have the backing of the Inquisitor.

Kinda hoping this is a misinterpretation because it's a terrible idea.

Neither have any experience. None have any connections. None have any desire to be Divine. There is no sense in this.

If my interpretation is correct, I actually sort of wish I hadn't seen it. Would rather have gone into the game fresh for the major choices like this. I think I'll bow out of the BSN for the next week or so.

What? Cassandra and Leliana served as Justinia's closest aides and advisors for years and Vivenne and Leliana are two of the best-connected people in Thedas. How can you possibly claim that?

As for desiring to be Divine, I think we'd better actually find out how much influence the Inquisitor can exert over that desire in-game before making any assumptions.

There's always the chance that you can raise any of those 3 to divine, but you don't have to.

I could not see Viv as divine UNLESS she secretly is ultra pro chantry and a borderline religious zealot.

It really depends what happens with the warden but I wonder if the Leliana choice will be blocked if romanced? Now Justinia and Leliana share a lot of progress ideas like freedom and equality so maybe she can be together with her lover in the open AND be the new Divine. Of course I imagine that these characters would want to take up this role through choices in the game.

I'm amazed there isn't an option for a female human inquisitor to be the new divine. They're from a religious family and they're the herald of Andraste.

Ew, these choices are terrible! I hope we can pick anyone else instead, if this speculation is even being interpreted correctly. I would think Mother Giselle would certainly be superior to two trained killers and a power-hungry mage. :? I like Cass, Leliana, and Viv...but this seems like a role unsuited to any of them.

That's like saying the members of the secret service can be presidents. Cassandra explains her and Leliana's roles, and it's basically to do everything the Divine technically can't. They aren't advisors, they're glorified agents and assassins.

Considering all the released information basically says, "You can't force companions to think your way," I'm going to guess it won't work like Dragon Age 2.

Where is the option for Petrice?

Of those only Leliana barely fits the requirements, she is the only one who is technically a "sister", so a priest. The others have no popeness about them.

Yes, I think this is likely. I find it difficult to believe there isn't at least one candidate who is a full-fledged cleric. As I said in the OP, I thought Mother Gisele might be an option.

I don't see why the Leliana choice would be blocked if romanced. You don't have to be a virgin to be Divine, after all, and she may choose to break off or at least cool the relationship with The Warden for what she sees as the good of the Chantry.

Well, Justinia V wasn't an ultra pro chantry and a borderline religious zealot.

All three candidates are terrible, and I'm not sure being the Divine it's a good thing who the player who feel attach to these characters it might ruin Inquisitor romance with Cassandra, or the Warden romance with Leliana.

It...just...ugh

It just bad leliana rly assassin as head of church it would never work not to mention she is lay sister , cassandra would be better but just a little because she have cleaner reputation but still she spend whole life as warrior , then mage as divine in white chantry please just no...

Only actual credible candidate that don't throw off is that mother and she isn't even on the list.

Well, obviously, I'm voting Team Vivienne.

Honestly Leliana might be the best candidate, but only by a slim margin. I sincerely hope these flags are being misinterpreted.

TBH, if we got another option I would like to vote for Mother Gisele for the new Divine.

That analogy isn't even close to being accurate. Cassandra was very close to Justinia, Leliana even more so (though she makes clear their relationship wasn't romantic, Leliana truly loved Justinia and it appears that the feeling was mutual). Working for Justinia in one capacity does not exclude them from informally serving in another, nor does it mean that they could not form a personal bond with her.

Well, obviously, I'm voting Team Vivienne.

As Mageneto, she's probably the best candidate I have for making sure mages get acclimated into society.

As someone people have pointed out, most of the major and main leaders of the Chantry are dead. I have to add this: "To the Victor, goes the Spoils." Basically, if you close the Breach, YOU have the power to decide what's going on. What can stop you?

Oh, as a side note, remember, they ignored the epilogues of Dragon Age: Origins, they may or may not have done the same with Dragon Age 2, and they may do this Dragon Age: Inquisition as well. You may be able to have some selection of who the Divine is, but it doesn't mean it will stick to the next game.

I think that maybe it's just dialogue about who they think should be the new Divine, not necessarily that they are a candidate for being it.  Time will tell.

Leliana, no brainer.

About her being an assassin, Isn't a divine some kind of church rank parallel to RL pope ? If so, can't see it being a problem at all. It's not like all of the popes in our history were all that "saint".
