With Inquisition slowly making its way into everyones hand, I thought it'd be pretty cool to discuss what you would think would be the best mix of races, genders, classes, etc that would make someone the most logical choice as a herald of andraste. It's fun to play as a big old qunari male mage as being the herald or your dalish keeper leading the forces of the faithful, but let's be honest, nobody if not for the mark on your hand would ever believe they were anything to anything of andraste.

For me, the choice seems obvious, A Female Human Warrior. Leading the armies like the second coming of Andraste herself. That's my opinion on the matter, but I know there are others here.

For example, maybe you think the entire system must be challenged and so the most challenging to the expected person is needed to lead the forces against the demonic hordes. So what would you think would be the best choice. Maybe you think a specific cause should be championed, such as those of the dalish, or even the mages. Maybe the thought of a Black Divine style Male Human Mage would be just what you want ot stick it to the big lady in charge.

In either case, I think we all have at least one playthrough where everything would probably fall into place for some message we want sent or another.

I agree with you, that a human female warrior would be most logical.  However, this brings up a good topic: I personally don't like the idea of being his herald of Andraste.  I tend to side with the mages, and I prefer playing the anti-hero (like a Batman instead of Superman).  I hope there are options to allow us to role-play disliking the idea of being called the herald.

I think Andraste was a mage, so I think the most logical would be a human female mage.

Personally, I think a female human rift-mage would make the most sense.

It has been confirmed multiple times that you can dislike the title and say you don't want to be called it.

However, just like in real life, what other people call you is not always up to you either.

Hum..while I will side with Mage..cose I'm loonie that way  I did think about this whole Andraste busness (and will have most of my toon reject the title just to see if I can make some peoples mad!) . But for the one who will embrace it ? For me..it gonna be an elf . It be the return of the Dale under a female elf..with shem insult and Andraste in the back (or maybe its flemeth in disguise)! The earth shall shake all over again !  ;)

I always play as a mage. The question is the race. In DA:O, I played as an elven mage simply because the racial attributes were geared towards magic. However, in Inquisition, the elven racial bonus for ranged defense just doesn't make sense. So I am rolling as a human mage inquisitor (albeit a person of color and is LGBT. Because empowerment.)

Likely for my first run through, a human female mage will be the way to go. As you mentioned it just lines up, now ironically I am usually pro Templar. Not as in "all mages must die" but more of a balance needing to be brought, and neither of the first two games ever truly -had- balance. 2 tried, but... well, it's not a spoiler forum, so yeah. Moving on.

However, after that original, more logical playthrough (regardless of which side I take) I can very much see Qunari being the second choice.

After seeing my inquisitors ' sketches i realized that the most "makes sense" one is Shayle Cadash:

* Looking at the intro with the huge explosion

* The rift sealing stuff attached to inquisitor

* Karl used the amulet on Shale to retrieve the dwarf inside

* The explosion we saw could be the consecuence of the golem Shale exploding bursting with all crystals added by Wilhelm... that could tear the veil with ease

* Karl could have died in the explosion BUT...

* Karl had stole Flemmeth's grimmoire from Morrigan that could explain why is he alive, free, traveling around Theadas and  (probably) not corrupted

A dwarven female rogue.

That's the second coming.  And have her be Dagna.

Female human mage, as I think Andraste was a mage.

Well to me, it looks like the "Maker's chosen people" have been mucking it all up a bit, so it makes sense to me that Andraste would seek a prophet from the chillest race around: dwarves.  :P

I love how mages tied into the storyline of DA2, so with that plotline moving forward into DAI that is what I plan on rolling (female human mage, to be specific).  I'm also in agreement that I think the Andraste issue perhaps favors humans for now.

First playthrough will be a female human mage (like a lot of others here), but may have to do a playthrough later as a dwarf or Qunari rogue just for the laughs when they call me the Herald of Andraste.

First choice is definitely elf. As a Dalish elf, the elf Inquisitor could reaffirm Andraste's promise of an elven homeland and reverse the blasphemous injustice that was the Exalted March on the Dales.

Close second would be be dwarf or qunari, as a sign that the Maker watches over all peoples, not just humans. The Maker's not coming back until the Chant of Light is sung in all places, and that includes Orzammar and Par Vollen.

Actually, it does. I'm not sure about you, but in DAO, I found that the worst fear I could have as a mage was being shot full of arrows (aside from the nastier spells that hurt everyone). Elves are well-suited to being mages.

Either Qunari or Dwarf for me since they best fit the role of Nominal Hero, which I prefer to play.

The best, most 'make sense' Herald of Andraste? Like there was ever a choice...

Boom.

[/end thread]

Seriously though, I obviously agree with Human female warrior, and after much coniderations on whom my canon would be... I think I'm using the above pic (both look and mannerisms) as inspiration.

The devs stated in the Art Book that the Inquisitor is a rogue and alot of the details behind the inquisition are based on that fact.

What they said was the Warden is a warrior, Hawke was based around a mage and they hadnt done a rogue based hero yet

I actually think the one who best fits the role as Herald of Andraste, from a story point of view, would certainly be a Qunari mage.

It raises very interesting and important questions about the views of the chantry, and may drag them slightly out of the proverbial equality dark ages.

You beat me to it. A female human mage, especially in that Andraste was supposedly a mage.

I think Male Human personally. You are the Herald of Andraste, working in service to Andraste, not Andraste herself. It would make for a cleaner narrative for these two characters to be easily distinguishable from each other, rather than for the Herald to be formed in Andraste's image.

Personally, when I think Herald, I think of Hermes more than Joan of Arc. Andraste was already Joan of Arc.
