I think Andraste was a mage, so I think the most logical would be a human female mage.

Wasn't Andraste an elf?

Well, Andrastrianism is primarily a human religion, and we've established humans are rather racist, so human definitely makes the most sense.

I'm not sold on 'female' though. Unless the Inquisitor is supposed to be Andraste reborn, Thedas is supposedly very equal rights towards gender issues, so I don't know why a female would be a more natural fit than a man.

And I'm not sold on mage either. Surely the Inquisitor is simply bestowed magic powers no matter what class they are?

Assuming Andraste wasn't a charlatan mage herself?  I think that either an elf or qunari mage best fits whom the prophet would select.

What better flies in the face of a millennium of perverted teachings than a mage, to showcase the fear and bondage with which the world has treated its potentially most potent source of progress and power?  And what better reminder of mankind's solipsistic hubris than a Dalish elf, mirroring the heroism and sacrifice of the redacted Shartan?  Or a tal-vashoth saarbaras qunari, showing that Andraste's teachings may bless all, and that even the most seemingly barbarian of vassals may still do good works to serve the Maker's will?

Agree that human female makes the most sense, but I think human female rogue makes more sense than human female warrior, simply because most of the lore and myth construction around the figure of Andraste in Thedas seems to heavily imply that she was a bard (I mean, look at Leliana, that's a large part of what attracted her to Andrastism in the first place).

There's certainly a strong case to make for the theory that the historical Andraste was actually a mage but I still think rogue makes more sense because most Thedosians wouldn't believe this, hence female human rogue makes the most sense as it would likely jive with most Thedosians' notion of who they think Andraste was and therefore would make most sense as "the herald of Andraste."

That said, I always use a random integer generator to decide my gender/race/class/sexual orientation and I'll be rolling a straight female Qunari rogue. :)

No, the elves just joined her uprising due to similar goals. She was a Fereldan human slave.

We're just herald of Andraste (if that). Not reincarnation of Andraste. A herald is just a messenger.

I think it's fairly open ended.

I've been on the fence on this issue myself. My play through is going to be a dwarf female warrior. But this could change during character dev.
but my DA worlds I never did my first play through as a dwarf. So I think its time I did.

with that said, the human play through seems like a too normal, too safe and biased. I think the inquisition needs the dwarf persona to unify the people.
qunari make no sense for me right now. Especially a female. This is the first time a female has been seen, and thier story lore is very vague at best for me. I see a potential to grow on that race.

I'm pro aquetarian (sp?) so a mid ground for the mage templar conflict. And I'm vain, so crafting is going to consume me more than the storyline.

so yeah, a dwarf female warrior iquisitor who spends more time on drapes and armor asthetics than the actual world of thefas really needs her to.

One character that makes the most sense is the one I want to play.
