As someone who has played as a mage exclusively in the previous two games, I never really bought into the specializations offered. Then I played Mass Effect, randomly rolled as a Sentinel...and I thought that was the best possible class to be.

Seriously. They get awesome biotic power (mage-ish), awesome tech powers (rogue-ish), and a ridiculously powerful armor (warrior-ish). Yes, they're not as solid as a pure Adept or Engineer in terms of biotics or tech...but they are more than capable as they combine all the good stuff. I never even had to fire a single bullet -- the Sentinel had abilities to take down the Warp, Armor, Shields, and even health. Add in biotic combos, and goodbye enemies.

I am trying to look for a mage specialization that is similar to the OP powers of the Sentinel.

Knight Enchanter is your specialization.  It's the best mix of mage/warrior that the game has for a magic user.

Well, now that you mention it, Knight Enchanter's armour spell is sort of tech armour-y. It doesn't last nearly as long, but it makes one invulnerable for 2 seconds and, with the upgrade, detonates if it expires while you're standing inside an enemy. It's also got an AOE slowing field spell and a melee attack that pretty much detonates everything.

(darn, everybody beat me to it)

I do believe KE is the only character that can use both melee and ranged 'weapons' during the same encounter. I'm gonna miss my rogue but I love the KE's versatility.

What you want is the Tempest spec for rogues. You get magic grenades, in a sense, and the abilities rogues get on top of that. Really its the best bet for that "Tech/Biotic meleer" mix so many sentinel fans seemed to like.

Knight Enchanter is like a vanguard without a charge, and the Templar/Reaver specs are pretty much the same thing.

Fade Step (the mage version of charge) is at the top of the Frost tree, so easily available to any mage. Nevermind that there are several other skills in the Frost tree that combine well with KE.

I did not know that. XD Good to know, might make myself a qunari mage and go full Vanguard now.

Ooh, is Fade Step really the first skill you can get in Frost? I was hoping that I wouldn't have to go too far down in the tree to get it.
