What about that denovo thing that people say is not a drm but does the same thing and that is that he protects privacy.

Denuvo is an anti-tamper software, not a DRM. Read what Derek French has to say on the topic

This sort of DRM is basically EA punching the paying customer in the face while asking the pirate how much it hurts.

This game has the best protection: the Keep. Without it, it would be meaningless to play.

As long as that "Anti-Tamper" doesn't effect my gameplay, I don't have an issuie but, if it does; I will return the game immediately.

Also, for those who don't understand why there are so much hate on DRM, you obviously never suffered from it.

If a purpose for this software is to make it more difficult for people to cheat in multiplayer,

This sort of DRM is basically EA punching the paying customer in the face while asking the pirate how much it hurts.

And if it's main purpose is to make it harder for people to cheat in MP?

The anti tamper has been garunteed not to.

As to the keep, It definintely is a big deterrent but some pirates dont care and want the free game anyway

But DA:I multiplayer is only co-operative, isn't it? So not sure why anyone would be getting their underwear in the twist over the idea someone might be 'cheating' poor NPC out of their riches in it. It's entirely different kettle of fish from situation where you'd play against other human beings who can get upset about being at disadvantage.

In addition the only truly viable protection is not to trust the client (since "it's in the hands of the enemy") anyway and have the server do the checks. None of these HackShield-like guards are even remotely effective against people who literally make their living writing hacks for the MP games.

I don't care pirates get to play or not. I care when they try to fend off pirates they are impacting me as a customer. Imposing 1-5% performance (this is what was revealed by CI devs on Lord of the Fallen) is already a big deal. Also, Bioware said it has no impact to performance and the Denuvo web-page said it will not impact performance. Lies?

If there's DRM free version of Dragon Age Inquisition i'm sure MANY will be interested to do a comparison With and Without the DRM and we will be able to see if it's more than 1-5% that was claimed.

If Bioware really DARE come clean show us proof with and without the DRM and show us the performance impact. I dare say they DARE not.

I couldn't agree more!

I'm one of those who has been highly penalized by draconian DRMs over the years, but an "Anti-Tamper" mechanism is a thing, and does little than affect gameplay, a DRM is another..

Luckly it only has Origin, where, like it or not, it was known since the beginning, and instead of adding another layer of software running in the shadows and possibly causing troubles (do I have to remember the issues PunkBuster caused when not run/updated properly?) they just embedded it within the executable code, having a minimal impact on performances, preventing the tampering of the original executable (you would do that to 1) reverse engineer, 2) cheat in SP, 3) cheat in MP, 4) crack the game) while not adding an infamous rootkit like SecuROM and the like...

Obviously the Utopia has a name already, it's CD Projekt Red, but if we can't get the same treatment, this for sure ain't like Ubisoft, just to name one, who is consistently giving **** to its customers.

And you never worked a day in your life or you lack the basic intelligence for grasping the need to protect something insubstantial as software.

If I pay for it, I want good experience in return.Do what the hell ever you want, as long as it don't effect me, but if it does; then there is a big F world for you.

You should re-read what I write there before trying to insult me.

You mean the Utopia that tried to actually sue/scare people into paying heavy fees over perceived damages? I don't know, it's not really the kind of treatment I'd like EA to try and emulate.

You realize if they released the DRM free version and the DRM version there would be literally no point in a drm version existing in the first place...I really hope your post is sarcastic,,,because if not...this is some weird kind of paranoia.

You're complaining when you have never played DA:I with or without DRM....so if the game has 5 less FPS because of DRM, 5 fps of which you wouldn't have noticed anyways, you would go into a rage?

When Origin DRM was crackable, then everything was quiet. Not a single pirate or honest customer in the world cared.

Just recently Origin DRM was improved with anti-tamper measures making it uncrackable. Now threads like this are starting to pop up everywhere.

Funny how that works.

Where excatly do I complain? I don't have a shinny PC, and 5 FPS means lot. Also I'm not just talking about FPS, it can bu kicking out of the game as such. I will say it again: IF IT DOESN'T EFFECT ME, I DON'T GIVE A S**T.

Threads like this are popping up because people who didn't know what they were talking about started a big scare thread comparing the anti-tamper measure to SecuROM, which was then locked, and then people who still didn't know what they were talking about started more threads.

Sometimes, that happens when PC games get re-released later - especially on GOG.

Riddick: Dark Athena had DRM (Tages, IIRC) in its retail-box, which never got patched-out by Atari BTW - yet it's re-release on GOG certainly did not have any DRM.

That's just for starters!

STALKER: Clear Sky from retail had Tages, yet later re-releases Gamersgate + GOG have DRM-FREE versions.

Two Worlds 1 + 2 had their own homebrew DRM from their original versions - yet, GOG got them DRM-FREE.

Risen 2 was originally requiring Steam everywhere and had their CEG DRM, but GOG later got a Gold Edition re-release without any DRM.

I could keep going, but you get my point.

Certainly, there's a market for making game-owners buy the same game again. ;)

I'm sure they are all paying customers who have never pirated a game and are just 100% concerned about the performance of the game....I think it seems pretty obvious what side you are on when DA:I is about to come out and you have the choice to A: Post about how excited you are for the game, or B: Post about how if DRM makes your gameplay even the little bit least unpleasant you will flame and rage.

Speaking of logic, by what logic did you conclude that someone intended that it was either/or? Nowhere is it ever even implied it was either/or.

A robber sees a dark house, sneaks up to find the door locked. That's a deterrent.

Robber see lit house but decides to sneak up anyway, coming to find the door locked. That's two deterrents.

More often than not, however, the lights will prevent them from even checking, especially exterior ones.

Must have read your post wrong, I was pretty tired last night.

Denuvo is NOT DRM.

Well, it's supposedly NOT DRM - but it really seems like it's in the sense of what we've known DRM to be.

We've known DRM to be more like Securom, Tages, StarForce, etc etc - which restrict things to the user: require disc in an optical drive, how many PC's can install a game, require Internet Activation, maybe involve some sort of revoking process, etc etc.

We've known DRM to be account-based + tied to a game-client program - which Origin, Steam, UPlay do.

Now we've got Denuvo - which seems to be a different breed of DRM, protecting EXE's from being modified + tampered with; hence why they're calling it anti-tampering.

Denuvo is still managing digital files + rights, with what can be done with them - so, it's DRM to me; just a different breed of it.

I will just point out that there's zero evidence just how much if any performance hit exists due to the Denuvo anti-temper or whatever. And no, Bioware have not said it doesn't affect game performance. I understand the Lords of the Fallen developers claiming 1-5% hit on Twitch but I am not sure I believe how accurate that is. Is it so hard for people to understand that these are legitimate concerns?

There are no more legitimate concerns because the concerns have been addressed (which is why the previous thread was closed, and I wager this one will be too).

The developers have spoken: Denuvo is not DRM; it is not harmful to your PC; and if there's a performance impact, it hasn't been proven. Given that Denuvo has been used on two other major titles, it's fair to say that if there was a meaningful or noticeable impact on performance, it would have been proven. It hasn't.

It's time to move on.

Company had the right and the need to protect their work.

Take your complain to the hacker if company growed desperate enough to try increasingly bizantine way to protect their work, stop this bullshit of the big bad evil corporation trying to screw up the loyal saintly customer because they are the same people who cornered them in making those decision.
