KOTOR 3, thanks. Though I don't know whether Disney watching over your head than Lucasart is better or worse.

I agree.
The problem (there were many I know, but that's not the point) of the ME3 endings is that it effects the world in various ways that can not be explained by just advancing the timeline X amount of years. The only one that kind of allows for that is the control option because destroy kills all synthetic life and synergy combines synthetic/organic.
While I'd be interested in seeing how ME4 goes, I'm hesitant about how well received the story is going to be. They'd have to design three separate world states for the game, pull a Bethesda and claim that they all happened, or they would have to canonize one. A Mass Effect Keep is not really an option.
I was under the impression that they're doing none of the above. It's taking place in a different corner of the galaxy. Probably so far removed that it doesn't really matter what Shep did or didn't do.

Source? I never heard details quite that... well, detailed. Just curious.

Super heroes would be cool, but it is so hard to do powers right. Super speed vs. flight vs. teleportation vs. super strength hops... it almost begs to be an open-world sandbox game, but then it becomes an issue of being able to tell a strong, coherent story, something open world games always struggle with.Would really enjoy a Superhero theme RPG. Maybe something less Justice League and more Watchmen in terms of powers?

I don't think there has been that level of detail, but the general impression of all they've said is that it'll take place at some great distance from the Shepard trilogy and involve visiting new distant places. We draw our conclusions from there.Source? I never heard details quite that... well, detailed. Just curious.

Ah. How then would any humans be involved with the story if it is outside any known point of galactic civilization?

City of Heroes-esque powers/playstyle combined with a GTAV type open world/mission system and Bioware crafted characters and stories? Hell yeah.

Errr... Reaper ships are millions of years old. There's no reason why a Control ending where Shep controls the entire Reaper armada wouldn't be just as omnipotent a million years from the end of ME3 as a week afterwards.Far future? New settlement? Lots of stuff they could do.
Besides, Synthesis is seen affecting the entire galaxy... meaning any human settlements would have been affected, since there are no human colonies not reached by Mass Relay technology. Unless Synthesis just stops working and reverts everyone back to normal organics again... but if that were the case, that would really negate those player's choices and would essentially just be making Destroy the canon ending, which they can do, again, a week after the events of ME3.

That's why I personally favor Ark Theory. The idea that some group sent a ship or fleet of ships to some point outside the relay network (Possibly a whole new galaxy, or just a part of the Milky Way) and established a settlement, all this happening before the ending as a way to escape the Reapers. Jump ahead a few centuries or a thousand years, and we get the setting for ME:NErrr... Reaper ships are millions of years old. That way we don't have to address the ending debacle at all.

Eh. Without Mass Relays, you wouldn't really have any real hope of expanding outside of maybe a few systems (due to limited FTL travel), all of which would be sparsely populated if the entire source of the population came from a few ships, even a thousand years later.
Personally, I'd they reboot the series to include all of the elements - the Citadel, the races, the mass relays - and just removed the Reapers entirely, they would have me back as a fan. The world presented in ME1 was one of great possibility. We saw that possibility pigeon holed in ME2 and completely squandered in ME3. Exploring a back-water version of the Galaxy so far removed from everything just to say it is the same universe seems silly.
Back on topic, has any more been said about this Shadowlands game? I like the concept of Working against a group of heroes a la Dungeon Keeper, but it seems like it might a bit limited otherwise.

I think you maybe should put an extra zero in front of those. The first completion video is being posted right now, with the guy saying you need 100 hours to complete the game.

Hm, well if it is far future (In addition to Ark Theory) then perhaps they developed faster FTL. Or maybe they discovered an analogous alien network. *shrug* I doubt they're doing a reboot though.Eh. As for Shadow Realms, I'm not that interested at the moment, I need to know whether it actually has much in the way of a story.

I disagree. ME1 destroyed the ME universe's potential before it began by giving us the Reaper bogeymen and putting a timestamp on their arrival.
In fact, ME2 was the best game for what you're advocating, because it essentially ignored the Reaper threat and focused on the galaxy. There were the Collectors, but they were only tangentially related to the Reapers (through Harbinger, and of course being Protheans). ME2 was the only game of the series that could stand apart from the Reapers. ME1 and ME3 were the worst, when it came to nonsensical omnipotent threats--that squelch worldbuilding (which was where ME2 excelled, IMO).
