I hope we get to talk some with Krem. I'm really excited for his character.
The Chargers seem like a fun lot.

So everyone is excited about this Krem character simply because they are transgender? I'll wait to see if they're actually interesting or not.

There are actually a couple videos I've seen already. Spoiler-filled, obviously.
Anyway, nothing wrong with being excited to see a transman in a DA game. It's nice to see characters that rarely appear in games or movies, and when it comes to fleshing out characters and making players care about them, I have faith in Bioware to deliver.

To be honest, that's a part of it for me. I'm not thinking he's automatically going to be interesting because of that, but it is something that I'm eager to see. But that's not the only reason. I'm just excited in general to get to know IB's group. From the videos I've watched, I'm intrigued.

In my case, I'm excited because I am transgender. Female to male, like Krem ![]()

Phrasing!I was initially excited only because there was a transgender character other than Mae. (I love Mae, I want her as a DA4 companion, but still, more representation is always great) I wanted the character to be female to male too since I can't name any other fictional transman. So of course Krem is just super cool for me, especially if you add the fact that he's voiced by the Jennifer Hale. And of course that he seems like a great character in general, and they do highlight that aspect of his character and deal with it with great respect it seems.

A man who sees themselves as a woman still has a body of a man. And vice versa
Qunari look at abilities both physical and mental and then give a role based on them. There is one choice - to serve your role or to refuse and die/be reeducated
Men are chosen to be warriors not because women can't fight, but because men are physically stronger. Women are thought to be better at governing. Even in science women and men work in different fields
We have no idea how Qunari actually feel about the concept of transgender, just that they generally assign strict gender roles because they feel different genders are better at different things. We don't know if they view it as biology or mindset, though. Truly. The World of Thedas also states clearly - makes a point of stating really - that there are exceptions to gender roles - the Qunari do want to use each individual as they would be best used, so if a woman is oddly suited to a male job, she may be assigned that job, or vice versa for males. Likely this happens rarely because of gender socialization (all children are raised together and likely taught differently based on different gender roles, after all) but it does happen, and the Qunari aren't particularly "upset" about it, as their goal is to put everyone in an appropriate role. Think "The Giver" if you ever read it. That's how society seems to be (though not in all ways - I just mean with jobs).
Makes me wonder, was Sten fishing for a transgender affirmation when he confronts a female Warden? Like he was expecting you to be like "yeah I look like a women but I'm actually a man", so when you instead said "yeah I'm a women" he got confused. He thought that if you're fighting then you must be a female with the mind of a male, because a female in body and mind isn't something he's ever encountered before. He expects any fighting females to be transgender. So when you weren't and actually were female and was okay with your gender, his mind went-
That is....an awesome thought.

I love Mae so much. What a great character, just in general. If we ever go to Tevinter, here's hoping we see her then.

I hope you can actually befriend all of the chargers. Being able to become friend's with npc's that aren't companions would be cool. pulse they all sound like their a lot of fun.

Women want to fight? They're really men, they're transgender. Don't be silly, women don't fight.
Seems a pretty progressive message to send women and girls. ![]()

I agree, but at the same time you have to recall how representation really is important to people. When someone's more like you, especially a player character, it feels different than if they aren't like you at all. Sometimes it's fun to roleplay as someone else, but sometimes it's nice to be able to say, be of one gender and date someone of that gender, or have a character with red hair because you have red hair, etc. You'd be surprised how little representations like that can be big things for some people because they often have no representation at all.

It would be a terrible message if the game suggested that any woman who wanted to fight was really a man.
Fortunately, that's the not the case with the game. There is a singular character who was born a woman, but lives his life as a man. He happens to be a mercenary.

Fair enough, I just find it strange that people point out that aspect of the character as an area of interest but I see your point.

I just really hope this is done right and he doesn't end up as some annoying token that Bioware uses to make a point about ''diversity''. Becasue that would be jarring.

When have they ever done that? Well developed characters is Bioware's signature, even when they're smaller NPCs.

To be fair, they have done stupid things like the Anders 'Love me, Love me, Westboro Baptist Church Initiate' option that's forced onto the play.
