NO NO NO Gerard Butler as shep?
Bale would be your man for the job, he already looked like him in Terminator Salvation.
i think youre absolutely right. i referred to shepard as 'John Connor' the whole way through my last playthrough as i used the default male. plus, it would be pretty cool to hear him slip into his "batman" voice every so often.

Making a Mass Effect movie which focuses on Shepard's story at all is ultimately pointless, since it goes against everything Bioware is trying to do with the series, which is emphasizing CHOICE. My Shepard isn't Gerard Butler, she isn't even a man, and watching something so different from my own personal experience just isn't appealing to me. Why watch someone else's interpretation of Mass Effect when I can just go back and play ME1. I agree that the ME universe should branch out into other mediums, but choose someone else's story, it worked with the novels and the comic, so why not with a movie?
you forget that Bioware has ab underlying "canon" story that is also used if you do not import a save file......aside for the sex (of course) Shhepard is a mostly renegade soldier that kills the Rachni, the council and Kaiden/Liara depending on who is sexually compatible.....

No, there isn't a canon storyline. Even if you choose not to import your shep there's a Q&A session early in the game which lets you establish what happened in ME1, like in KOTOR 2

Seems like most of these were chosen based on appearance and not the actors ability to fit the role however.

If a ME movie was made, it would most definitely have to made CGI, to avoid the inevitable whiners who think that their casting direction, would be so much more enjoyable.
As for voiceovers, just stick with who they already employ.

actually no, it was confirmed by the people who are already playing the game that that is NOT the case, most of the events in ME1 are already established you can only change minor things...if you do not believe me search the forums for it

A TV series could work though.
Not only this, but it should be based on the universe in general, rather than try to hamfist Shepard into it.
A TV series would actually be really cool with the proper budget and team behind it.

Mass Effect should never be a movie though. Think how much time you spent, not running around shooting, pausing and using tactics, but just listening to the story of ME1. Now think about ME2 and then ME3.
How would you ever get something this good into a 3 hour movie without making a total muck up of it?
Keep games and movie tie ins seperated. Let movie makers come up with their own IP for once.
