I know this isn't really how the thread has gone but I'll give my ideal semi-cheap cast because it doesn't have ANY of the people mentioned in the VGC list. Because the VGC list would only seem good to an adolescent.

Shephard: Alexander Sarsgard (from True Blood and Generation Kill)

Ashley: Jennifer Carpenter was BORN to play Ashley.

Kaidan: Sam Rockwell

Garrus: Tracy Morgan. I hate Garrus. Or Timothy Oliphant

Liara: Isla Fisher

Wrex: Also Tracy Morgan.

Tali: Golshifteh Farahani (the Iranian chick form Body of Lies)

Saren: Mickey Rourke.

From the first time I played this game I thought Jennifer Carpenter was perfect for Ashley - if you've ever seen her in Dexter you know what I'm talking about, it's like the writers used her as a basis for Ashley's dialogue.

Posted Image Huh. Well that's interesting, though as you say there still isn't a "canon" gender for Shepard, and if they're going to make a ME1 movie they'll have to nail that down. If they do that, then I'm almost 99% sure that Shep will be male, which would throw me right out of the experience.

sorry Jello....I mean they could have been lying but..why? there are many who said specifically that

in any event, Bioware has an iconic shepard....that is like one step removed of canon

but why do you think your experience would be ruined? that is Bioware's story in Mass Effect...it is different from yours....from mine..from everyone else's. the only difference is that THEIR story is becoming a movie, yours is not.

I suppose saying that my experience would be ruined was a tad melodramatic, but I tend to get a bit touchy about whether there is a "canon" gender for mass effect or not. I buy Bioware games because I am a woman and I want to be able to play as a woman, which is an option a vast majority of videogames do not offer. Bioware are ahead of the curve in this respect, and I am pathetically grateful. I just want to be able to feel that my choice to play as a female is valid, and not just something tacked on to the "actual" story.

and you CAN play as a woman, as it is  Bioware is giving you three romances, Garrus, Thane and Jacob that were as much "asked for" (in Garrus' case) as those offered to a man...and just as in-depth...more to the point even the look of Thane was basically decided by US (well..you....the women...I hate Thane) in the forums...(it is said so in one of the Art of Videogames vid I believe) . Bioware's effort in allowing a valid choice in playing as a woman  is obvious since either playthroughs, a woman or a man, will offer the same amount of content and depth. If they choose a man as an iconic Shepard or as the protagonist of the movie does the effort they put in the game itself (for you as a woman to have the same concent quality as a guy) diminish? I believe not.

I realize that Bioware has to use "iconic" Shepard for marketing, and I don't begrudge them that. However, making a movie which has Shepard as the main character (male or female) is ultimately going to leave a bunch of fans disappointed, which doesn't have to happen if they simply avoid Shepard's story altogether. Why does the movie need to be about Shepard anyway? The ME universe is large enough for untold numbers of interesting characters and events. Newcomers would be given a taste of what Bioware has to offer, and it might make them pick up ME1 and 2. Old fans of the series would be able to experience a new and interesting facet of the IP. Everyone wins.
And as a hopeless Garrus fangirl since ME1 I'm overjoyed at the news of him being a love interest. Just goes to show that Bioware really cares about their fans. Posted Image

I extremely doubt that even if they did make a live-action movie of Mass Effect that it would be on Shepard, it would most likely be based on some other character who doesn't relate to the Mass Effect or Mass Effect 2 story in almost any way other then the occasional mention of something he did such as:

"Hey, did you hear about Commander Shepard becoming the first human spectre?"

well you did not answer my question.....

yet I shall answer yours, why would a Mass Effect movie have to to be about Shepard? well mainly for the reason that Mass Effect IS the story of Commander Shepard, the first human spectre. Yes the extended literature and universe is enormous and rich and absolutely beautiful but mass effect in itself is the story of Shepard and his effort in saving the galaxy. Mass Effect was not marketed as "an Adventure" like Dragon Age but as "commander Shepard's adventure". That is why commander shepard is fully voiceacted as opposed to Dragon Age in which the protagonist is silent. That is why there has always been so much emphasis on the story's protagonist in Mass Effect in contrast to Dragon age (again).....and at the cost of being redundant.....that is the reason why the face of Mass Effect is Commander Shepard and not the rest of the cast (as it was in Dragon age in which the face of the game is non other than Morrigan). Delivering something different would ****** off a LOT more fans than choosing an iconic shepard for the movie would.

but now please answer my question, how exactly does the depicting of Bioware's personal take on their choices driven story throws your  ensamble of choices and their results out of the window?

it really does not.....does it?

it is just the path they chose through their own game.....they have had the same  possibilities as you had only their particular Shepard's story is being made a movie.

This is a rundown of things going from good to bad to worst

1. no movie at all

2. Blur with original cast

3. Better suited actors than that list with all cgi characters, and tali getting original voices

4. that list

Bioware's personal take on Shepard would pretty much be the "word of god" in terms of canon, and they have said multiple times that they have no intention of having a canon Shepard. It wouldn't just be "Bioware's Shepard", they'd actually have to make a definitive version, such as Revan from KOTOR being a light side male for the purposes of using him in the expanded universe. Mass Effect is the story of your own personal Shepard, and part of the reason it works so well is precisely because there is no canon to get in the way. This is specifically what Bioware was trying to avoid by making all of the expanded literature not involve Shepard at all. We disagree on whether a movie Shepard would be canon or not. I do, and you don't, but only Bioware can answer the question for sure. Any definitive canon would make Shepard's story less personal, because I would know that if Shepard is referenced in any subsequant Mass Effect related material it would be that Shepard and not my Shepard. Also, Bioware have stated that they plan on continuing with the Mass Effect IP even after the trilogy and the "story of Shepard" is over. Mass Effect is not exclusive to Shepard, which means that there is no reason why the movie should be.

That's what you get for asking for a movie to an epic game that is designed to be a personal trilogy. Expect any actual "movie" of this amazing game franchise to be a steaming turd (from what I can see so far).

I agree with Jellobell, making a ME movie based on the games is completely redundant because they would just be making a generic cut down version of a 60 hour plus game. They should make a CGI movie if they want to include characters from the game, the only exception might be Miranda as Yvonne Strahovski. If they want to use live actors then they need to make a original storyline.

No. They need to make it like the books or the comic. It can be part of the story but not about Shepard and his choices. Other wise making a movie would be like taking a crap on the whole trilogy.

Take the cast of Deadwood, and match them up:

Ian McShane (Al Swearengen) - Saren
Timothy Olyphant (Seth Bullock) - Shepard
W. Earl Brown (Dan Dority) - Wrex
Paula Malcomsom (Trixie) - Ash
Garret Dillahunt (Jack McCall/Francis Wolcott) - Kaiden
John Hawkes (Sol Star) - Garrus
Sarah Paulson (Ms. Isringhausen) - Liara

I would never take the parts of Anderson and Joker away from Keith David, and Seth Green.

Umm....I agree with the idea that two hours isn't enough to convey Mass Effect's story movie-wise...

But does anyone else here think that an ME TV series would be major league roxxor? With Mass Effect 1 being first season, ME2 being second, and ME3 being third?

And let me guess, Uwe Boll as director?

Might have some worth as a camp classic...

There is no reason to make a movie (mockery) of this game.
