Here's my story.    My first introduction to Mass Effect was actually with Mass Effect 2 when it was already on sale.   I picked it up on a whim since I had a free weekend and never heard of it before (Mass Effect to me then was just 'another' console game that I probably wouldn't like as a PC port).

I played all the way through Mass Effect 2 that weekend on the 'default' state obviously.    It was a good game and could readily admit I was intrigued enough to go buy the original Mass Effect.    I love Mass Effect even more than 2.    Guess my surprise when I replayed Mass Effect 2 and realized I MISSED half the content in the game by not having an import.

So no... I would never play a default world state ever again, given the choice.    Is missing half the content really what you want for your first play through?

Why is this even a question?

Always custom.

I think you should do what will give you the most enjoyment. It sounds like you have had a very possitive experience going default then custom in the past, give that I would try it again. Its not the choice i would make but it sounds like the choice that will give you the most enjoyment.

I'm drawing a total blank about this topic. Is this choice something new? I don't remember a choice like this in DAO. What are a couple of examples of what you can pick in custom?

Thanks for your help.

Well, like I explained, I did a default run of ME3 and I found that it made me appreciate the content more when I did a custom run afterwards. I was contemplating doing the same for DAI, I made this thread wondering if anyone else had had a similar experience. Apparently not.

I'm talking about the Dragon Age Keep.

I personally see playing default as gimping yourself.

Default setting misses out quite a lot of content and details.
Little to no mentions of previous events, no cameo appearance, killing off characters.

Definitly custom, it just feels more like my own game, and I like seeing how my previous heroes inluenced things ( which is why each run have their own canon world states differing at several points).

I just simply cannot see myself ever going through with default world state.

Yeah, my first playthrough of ME3 was a default. It made a huge difference to me when I finally beat the game and then loaded one of my saves. Moreso now with the dlc content. I dunno, though. DA is a different ball game. ME didn't have the Keep, so you only make about 15 decisions through the Genesis comic. The Keep has so much more.

I can see the appeal, but my first game? Definitely custom.

Custom for me, I went through too much pain and suffering to not use all mine. Damn you hard/nightmare modes!

Custom world state based on the character you see to the left of this post. Then custom world states based on my other characters. When I run out and if I don't feel like repeating just yet (or starting Origins again), I'll see how the "Friend's World State" feature I saw works.

100% custom, I'll only be playing this game maybe multiple times with two characters max both with the same world my choices made previously.

While I can see your POV on it, I think the game is so long that I couldnt' wait to get into my own custom world states. So for me the only question is which of my customs I am going to import first. And of those, I have two main contenders, but I'm not sure which one goes first.

If almost anything has a custom version and a default version, I'll almost always choose the custom version.  I like to design stuff.

I'm using custom options for the games, but as I haven't played any of the DLCs I'm leaving that info on default.

considering that I have several world states in the keep. I don't think I need to use the default any time soon.
