I posted this in the Solas thread, but I don't believe that was the place to discuss elven culture, ancient or otherwise.

 

So I just thought of something regarding Fenris.

What if his "Vallaslin" is actually an old elven ritual that Danarius somehow found?  Fenris' sister tells him that he wanted it, that he competed for it.  What if pre-ritual Fenris was actually wanting to be more like his ancestors?  *shudder*

Giving the scroll to Hawen's clan leads to finding out that both sides were at fault for different reasons, and Hawen's clan wants to send a peace offering to Red Crossing for the wrong that the elves played in the events that lead to the war between humans and elves centuries ago.

Don't expect the anti-elf users to suddenly grow a epiphany. They will continue to single out the Dalish for things like bigotry and self-righteousness and persecution-cards etc. etc. in the most overblown ways. And call for disproportionate retributions.

It does not matter how many Dalish are slaughtered, how many "Elves are savages" you have to hear in Orlais, or how many bodies Chantry affiliates pile up in the name of "some woman they burned alive"; Dalish are on point with the Darkspawn to these people.

All I have to do is mention Exalted Marches, "spread to the four corners", alienage purges, annulments, Duirsmuid, Kirkwall, and all the other monstrous atrocities Andrastian hands have committed.

Yes matching on Val Royeaux, killing elves sympathetic to Andrastianism, keeping the war going long after it's been lost killing Innocent people is SO much better than what Andrastians do..

You say these things like they prove a point, rebute an argument, or are an argument by themselves. It's a list- and not even a list of things uniquely motivated or linked by religion.

 

Perhaps these discussions never get anywhere because you're not interested in a discussion as much as vindicating a vendetta. Otherwise you wouldn't that all you had to do was mention a lot of different things done by a lot of different people for a lot of different reasons.

 

I hate the Andrastians and this forum strongly dislikes the Dalish. It is never going to change. I get it.

Perhaps some elves should consider trying to establish a new city state in the free marches.

One that isn't mired in a past they clearly don't understand and instead looking to the future. With open trade and diplomatic relations with the other city states they could possibly flourish.

I have an important question. As a non-completionist, is any interesting elven content gated behind "find the scattered tchotchki" quests or is it safely skippable? Am I missing anything really good, lore or story wise?  No spoilers, please, just a direction.

I'm quite curious to know what actually happened. I get that there was civil war and infighting, but why? Was it over succession or something else entirely?

This has gotten me quite curious about Arlathan culture.

It could be as simple that Elves weren't a unitary empire as previously belived, but were divided among rival kingdoms.  The more we learn about elves, the more "human" they turn out to be.

Fair point. To the outsiders, they may have seemed unified, but really they were warring states.

And I guess we know why Tevinter got the drop on them. It's only cause the empire had already destroyed itself.

Which is rather excessive, even for Tevinter. Something else was going on, Tevinter does not obliterate, it conquers.

Just created a male elf warrior for my second playthrough, though I'm going to wait until the banter bug is fixed. I'm going two-handed with him. I just wish we could have had body customization options. I took one look at him from the front and went "sweet Mythal, how are you supposed to be able to swing around a giant axe? Go do some pushups!"

I wouldn't say excessive necessarily. The strongest empire in Thedas was all but already annihilated. It makes sense that Tevinter would want to utterly eradicate them just in case there was a chance the Elven empire would recover.
