Awful argument, because straight people get loads of representation, we barely get anything. Dorian and Sera are the first gay companions we've had in Bioware games (I believe?), how is it fair for people to erase that by modding them as straight (or even bisexual, who are better represented in Bioware games than gay people are).

It's as fair as modding a straight character to be gay. In both cases you alter a character to meet your own personal desires, regardless of what was intended by the devs. It is no more or less wrong on the part of the player whether they be straight, gay, bi, etc.

No, it's not any worse. Your statement implies it's somehow more okay to be prejudice against straight people than gay people. Both are wrong, which is what Steel said. 

 

No one is prejudice against straight people, that never happens. You can't be oppressed for being straight, that's not how it works. And like I have said, straight people are over-represented in the media and it is not harmful for gay (or queer people) to headcanon or mod straight people as bisexual or gay so we feel like we are being represented or making characters like us considering how little representation we actually get.

If anyone modded Sera to be straight or bi and did the same to Dorian I am pretty sure the majority of them would be doing this so they could romance them, not to erase their sexuality. i know a LOT of gay and bi men that would go ape over a M/M relationship cullen mod. And there was more than a little disappointment over Cassandra by bi and gay females.

 

Its not about erasing their sexuality with Mods its about opening up companions that are gated. I 100% fully support any community making any companion open for romance. I just think it is 100% beyond the pale nutzoid to expect Bioware to make that choice as part of "official" cannon in future games.

 

I really don’t get how this is not “erasing sexuality” and whatever you imagine my evil plan to be is? You’re literally reiterating (an underlying part) of my argument.

 

I’d be mostly content to just mod my game, even with all the annoyances of incorrect dialogue etc., but it looks like modding DA:I will be harder than any previous BioWare game. That is why I’m sad that—in my view—they did it wrong to begin with.

Doing that, and also erasing gay characters sexuality is awful and it is not the same thing as making a straight character gay/bi. Straight people are not oppressed or told their sexuality is wrong, there has been no bad history for straight people and they are represented everywhere. Please don't trivialize this issue. 

No I don't, it is not canon, it never will be canon, if people want their games to look like they came out of 1942 Germany that is their decision

It's wrong. You aren't more entitled to twist anyone's character just because you're gay, bi, or straight.

It's fine to headcanon or mod whatever you like, just know that it is not any greater an act than a heterosexual player modding a gay character to be straight. There's also no real justification for being upset that the devs don't incorporate your mods and headcanons into the actual game.

That sure is a lot of words to say "Its ok because I have Oppression Points™ and you dont!"

 

A double standard is a double standard no matter how you spin it. If its ok to change sexuality one way, its ok to do the reverse.

Considering the argument here is that changing character sexuality is bad either way and that article is a retort to making gay characters straight I fail to see its validity.
I thought the author was an idiot based on the first two paragraphs alone, then I read the rest of the article and thought.. Wow this author is truely an idiot

LMFAO. You you have any idea how crazy you sound?

 

No one cares that you modded your game to romance Morrigan (well most people don't) its that you expect that choice to impact the DA:I era.

That is your title!!!!! You are not given the choice because mods are not offical content and its crazy nutzoid to complain that bioware isn't giving you this choice. And since the only way to import choices to DA:I is via the keep. You are expecting Bioware to put into the keep evey possible mod choice. Or are you so self centered that only YOUR mod choices should be supported? Cuz thats even worse.

 

I am not against people modding the game i am against you thinking you are EVER so special that Bioware should make your mods part of the official option choices of the keep so you can pretend happy families for a PAST character not even in DA:I.
