Does anyone know if the harrowing for the mage origin has a time limit (when you will die and your journey ends)?

Just wondering if you were in the fade and you had an emergency.. forgot to pause the game...would your mage be dead when you came back later? Thank you.. I may just test this later today...

If there is a limit, it is a pretty forgiving one. I usually take quite a while in the Fade and even go back to the start to take out the wisps there (they will respawn twice), and I have never had problems.

No, there is no time limit.  I'm surprised that anyone would think that there is.

The lore does suggest that if the Harrowing takes too long, the templars will off you.

I'm aware of that, but it doesn't follow that there's a time limit in that origin.  If there actually were a lore-based time limit, it would be a fairly straightforward textbook example of gameplay-lore segregation.  There isn't one--if there were, people would've long since found out about it, and anyway you wouldn't be able to pause the game in that case.

It's a good thing there is no time limit.  In my few playthroughs as a mage I've done it very slowly.  I'm not very good at magic.

It's an RPG. You know, those games where the big bad is about to destroy the world so you take time off to do 50 side-quests. Whenever any dev threatens to put a timer in an RPG you can hear the wailing from miles away.

There's no time limit on anything in DAO. Seriously, you can be as fast or as slow as you like and it'll never make a difference.

It's left to our imagination; if our character gets lost or is seduced by one of the many demons roaming around, they would definitely be gone too long and have to be offed by Templars. However, our hero is not your average mage, so we succeed regardless of how much of our time we spend in there.

According to Jowan, you are gone all night... So, it may have taken hours and hours??? The fade has a different time space continuum? :D

This. So much this :P

Like ME1: 'Race Against Time' to find Saren. Shepard goes and explores uncharted planets.

Like ME2: 'Stop the Collectors'... Shepard does some mining and kills some Blue Suns. Recruiting team? What?

According to one (some?) random mage(s) your Harrowing was the fastest ever.

Though it might be that cousin Bethany will beat you out shortly after Awakening.

Yes.. if you play a female, banter from another mage is "That Templar, Cullen, said it was the quickest, cleanest Harrowing he's ever seen. He says she's very talented and very brave.".. the other mage says.. "well... he would say that, wouldn't he"

Certain you don't have to play a female. I've never played a female in DA:O, always heard the line.. and I've done the Mage: Origin countless times during my 'wtf is this! I usually love to play mages but I really can't get into this *bleep*'-period :P

(I, ultimatly, ended up finishing the game with an Ancestral Healer mage...... DA:O is so strange. I usually hate to play melee characters, but I had so much fun with by S&B Warrior and Dual Wield warrior, and it took me ages to find a mage build I liked >.>)

I don't know how strong Mouse's word is as evidence. If it's backed up by another source, okay, but I'm not sure how much I trust Mouse. (I'm not saying that it's not valid evidence, just that it's not strong evidence.)

Well personally I tend to discount Mouse's "there's a time limit" bit as him trying to rush you in hopes that you won't take the time to actually stop and think about why he's actually there. "Haste makes Waste" sort of deal.

However something else to consider is that it is my understanding that the Templars woke you up in the middle of the night and ushered you into the Harrowing Chamber while you were practically still rubbing the sleep from your eyes in order to maintain their "Trial by Fire" routine so it's possible that the actual Harrowing was shown in a 1/1 Time Ratio and that the "quickest cleanest" comment was just Cullen being lust struck.

While both are entirely possible, I don't see how the second one follows from the first.

You're right, they don't necessarily follow each other but much like with Mouse's "Time Limit" quip I tend to discount second or possibly third hand rumors of Cullen's assessment on how long a Harrowing is supposed to take considering his attraction to you. Also although I might be mistaken I don't remember anyone else (With the possible exception of Mouse of course.) praising you for having a "quick or clean" Harrowing, just a simple and polite congrats for passing.

Fair point. Although, does Cullen say anything of the sort about a male mage? (Edit: Or is he said to have said so?)

It's not that extraordinary, tbh. I remember on my first ever DA:O playthrough I rushed to the Circle Tower straight after freeing Jowan because I believed I might actually come too late (of course it didn't make any difference whatsoever - it wasn't until later that I realised that ingame time didn't really mean anything).

As far as I remember, the closest thing to an actual 'expiration timer' in this game is if you leave Redcliffe before completing the 'Attack at Nightfall' quest.

Lothering's destruction should also count as a time limit of sorts in my opinion.
