So, could someone who played this game in Early Access (or anyone else who knows about this stuff) elaborate on how ability combos work in this game?

They work like they did in previous games, so stuff like freezing an enemy, then shield bashing it.

Which one of the previous games?
In DA:O, combos were largely mage-only with the exception of the most interesting combo Shatter, which could be triggered both by spells and by critical hits.
In DA 2, each class could inflict precisely one status effect, which could be used for combos only by a different class.

Seems to me its an updated version of the da2 combos between melee and ranged classes

Seems like any type of incapacitation can be triggered by any detonator ability.
