I bought the digital Deluxe Edition on the Xbox One through EA Access. Here's what I found:

  • Preloaded the game and the Deluxe Edition content before DA:I's release.
  • Played the EA Access trial (which excluded the Deluxe Edition content).
  • When the game finally released, I picked up where I left off and realized I did not have any of the Flames of the Inquisition stuff.
  • Went to Xbox One dashboard > Manage Games/Apps > Installed/Reinstalled the Deluxe Addition add-on instead of the full game.
  • Restarted DA:I.

Afterwards, I was able to access the Flames of the Inquisition content. Here's where you can find some of them:

  • Weapons/Armor: There's a "Special Delivery" chest in the house you wake up at in Haven. You can access this at any time, even after the Prologue. Also, see my notes below.
  • Mounts: You probably have to complete the Master of Horses sidequest in the Hinterlands first (which nets you your first horse). Afterwards, revisit the war room to check for new advisor missions that send them off to retrieve your DLC mounts. If you don't see the new missions, progress a little further into the main story and check back again. Eventually, they'll show up and once the missions are completed (instantly) you'll find your mounts at the stables in Haven (located near the armor/blacksmith just outside of Haven's walls).
  • Throne: Likely available upon accessing Skyhold.

Notes:

  • If playing a dual-wielding Rogue, you only receive ONE dagger from the Haven chest. Not sure if that was deliberate or if I'm missing something, ha.
  • Also, I only received just the armor (no helmet) from the same chest. Not sure if the helmet is available elsewhere or has to be crafted via schematic.

The problem with all of this is that it's pure speculation. I see a lot of "probably" and "likely" and "maybe". We need definitive answers from BioWare or EA on exactly how to access this stuff. Those who paid for this shouldn't be left in the dark as to how to access it.

True, but you're not left in the dark.

It is safe to say that you will find your weapon and armor in the Special Delivery chest in Haven. Also, you'll definitely find your DLC mounts from the war room. However, what triggers the war room missions (to obtain the mounts) isn't exactly clear, I agree. To be honest though, you don't have to do much to get to that point anyway.

Without a doubt, some of these things aren't immediately available, but you don't have to be far into the game to access it either. Yes, you paid for this content, but it's far from inaccessible to you. Just do what you were going to do anyway - play the game and you'll find what you're looking for. I personally did not have to go online to find out these things. The missions for the mounts WILL come to you and the weapons and armor is already available for your taking.

Season, You only got that information by either playing and stumbling upon how to access that or by searching online. Prior to doing ANY of that you and the rest of us are in the dark. When you go buy a car, you get the keys once you pay. It's not a pay for the car...then come back tomorrow and the keys will be on the car lot somewhere, you'll just have to find them kinda deal. That's what this DA:I Deluxe Purchase feels like. Love the game. But this has raised serious concerns for me going forward with making these types of purchases.

I should read before I post. Thanks!

I never got the flames of the inquisition stuff- does that not come with the xbox one digital edition?

If you have the digital Deluxe Edition, then yes.  :)

I certainly did come across those things while playing the game.

And, I understand what you're saying. I imagine you'd prefer some kind of guide or in-game hint as to where these items can be located (like the emails in Mass Effect or the quest prompts in Fallout 3).

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I find it hard not to access the Deluxe content because in all honesty, I felt like it was all part of what I was doing. I didn't have to go looking for it, per se...it just showed up for me. Example:

  • Went to the war room, sent some advisors on timed missions.
  • Went to Hinterlands to do some quests.
  • Got an update on the missions while questing.
  • Returned to the war room to get the report and saw new missions for the mounts.

To me, that's not really hidden, but I can understand how other people feel.  ^_^

Possibly. I know I saw the standard on the Xbox Store and the option to upgrade to the Deluxe Edition. Regardless, you bought the best version. Now go get that content!  ^_^

Exactly. Clearly people are leveling to the point of when they do accidentally stumble across this paid for content, it's deemed useless because they have found better gear by then. And the reason that is happening is because it hasn't been outlined to people up-front how or where to access it. They advertised the hell out of "You Will get this and That". But having to resort to forums and accidentally finding it is a joke.

I understand how you feel. I suppose I enjoy accidentally finding things more so than using a guide, ha. Which is ironic because I'm on here telling people how I found it...

I enjoy finding stuff too. That's a given part of the DA:I experience. But for paid for content, No. Just No. :)

The last thing I want to do for this type of content is spend half my day scouring forums to gather fragments of info in hopes of accessing stuff that is paid for with real money.

Draknalor, I cannot verify the "outleveling" of gear myself. But there have been several posts from forum members stating this is in fact the case. It makes me wonder if they are finding gear which they "think" is the Pre-order gear. When in fact it's not. Bottom line is this is part of the problem. It's not clear on where to find it, etc. I'm currently at work so I will explain the best I can on my mage, which I just finished the prologue. I found some gear which I don't remember even where I actually looted it. It's "Blue" rated. It certainly looks "Epic". it has wild feathers and stuff all over it. BUT, is it the part of the content we are all talking about? I don't know.

Well I have played games that require you to beat the game at lease once before get to use any PAID for DLC add ons. It being either armor, weapons, costumes or whatever. Ya that has made me mad, but that's not our choice, its the games devs. Such is life.

I have too. And it was advertised prior that is how it would play out. Not in this case.

Armor and weapons are given to you at LVL 2 mounts after you complete at early quest schematics I'm still waiting on but that's fine as I have really good armor right now and my weapon is decent.

I got the mounts but I haven't gotten armor or weapons. I downloaded it through Origin and now I'm level 7 and they still aren't in that chest.

No, unfortunately. And they're for level 1, and are outleveled within an hour of gameplay.

Which is exactly why so many of us are clambering for an answer do: Where exactly do we get the supposed crafting schematics for the better quality versions?

There's a lot of people asking about it, but no one seems willing to give an answer.

Exactly. It wouldn't be such a big deal if the DLC armor/weapons leveled up with your character but they don't. I've outgrown mine and I'm in no hurry to push the story along on the hopes that I might get the schematics when I unlock skyhold. Essentially I'll be carrying around useless items while I grind through the hinterlands for the next few hours/days.
