When people find reasons to justify their hatred, they rejoice. I doubt most of the people celebrating this revelation would have sided with the mages anyway even if this information wasn't found. I can only imagine their rage when the find out what the Templars are doing. As for myself, I find the mage quest WAY more interesting than the Templar one and you can actually decide on what conditions the mages will have if they join you whereas I see no option to do this with the Templars

Why would you assume it was only her making the decision rather than say taking a vote? Plus allying themselves to Tevinter might be a bad move politically but thats only because of the perception of Tevinter.
