I used to see a bunch of threads in the old BSN about Shepard's class matching their background (Spacer = Adept/Engineer, Earthborn=Infiltrator/Soldier etc.) and it got me thinking about DAI.

How will you roleplay your individual inquisitors? The RP-minded can tailor any background to suit their character and/or ignore canon altogether, but some canon backgrounds seem suited to certain classes/specs:

- Humans have a Chantry background: so Templar and Knight-Enchanter. Maybe Assassin if you want to go all Howe and Vael ("my family is dead, I'm going to kill you all with grandpa's bow"), or Necromancer if you're fond of magisters.

- Qunari mercenaries: Reaver and Assassin.

- Elves. Artificer (hunting, traps, etc.) and Rift Mage seems Keeper-esque? Necromancer is also a possibility.

- Dwarves: any Warrior spec could be enforcers. Rogue-wise: Assassins (DA2's Carta Assassin/Sniper etc), possibly Artificers/Tempests (smuggling=new toys).

Champion seems like a pretty neutral spec, entirely appropriate for your warriorquisitor and:
Spoiler

Thoughts? Are you going with any class+background "presets" or just making up something awesome (because hey, it's your game and you can roll whatever you want). I reckon a dwarven templar would be an amazing anti-magic tank lol.

Also, sorry if this has been posted before - I imagine it has, what with there being 70ish pages in this part of the forum alone. Plus I'm not even sure if this is the right subforum? I'm pretty new (first topic) and curious to hear what character combinations you guys have.

I guess since bioware is already forcing a background on us it is hard to ignore the background they chose for us and have to work within that framework.

Human rogue.
Bioware needs to stop this and take a lesson from Bethseda or they will never become a contender again.

I think Qunari rogues would be Artificers, canon-wise, since the Qunari are extremely technologically advanced?

However what the hell, since I'm playing a Dalish Elf who is gonna see the Templars trying to somewhat keep order (not knowing how they treat mages), and whose going to become a Templar because he associates it with Justice and Order. Then have everyone be surprised when a Dalish Templar helps the mages haha

While this is true, your character is Tal-Vashoth and we haven't really seen any evidence of the Tal-Vashoth having access to Qunari technology. Even if you managed to defect with the technology itself, there's no guarantee you'd have the know-how to replicate it.

I like the human Chantry background, but I'm just filling in blanks not stated. I'll base his beliefs on myself a bit.. although he was raised to be something, he didn't fully embrace it until later. Kind of the black sheep child at first. Perhaps that sounds a little too much like Sebastian's background too, but hey.. it's also my own.

I don't think I need to pick Templar though. I'll go Champion because he's becoming one presently through the events of the game. You don't need too many lore reasons for Champion anyways. Except military intelligence and leadership. Not everything is about the past. The fact that you're Herald of Andraste is already related to Champion.

For Elves, I always play as a rogue. Either Tempest or Artificer. You're right, Artificer seems to fit the best with the Dalish lifestyle and what we know about them.

I recently (finally) made a Human mage and for some reason I only want to play as a Human mage now. I like their back story. I'm thinking of going with Necromancer personally. Rift Mage and Knight Enchanter seem to obvious but the latter is also a good choice for a Faithful Mage Inquisitor, I guess, just not my style.
