Just out of curiosity. I know the ME franchise was planned as a trilogy from the start (they've stated that for multiple times, e.g. in the ME2 documentary), so I wonder if DA series is the same.

If the answer is "yes", I also want to know the source (article, blog post, etc.), thanks.

Well I don't have a source but they always planned to do multiple games if they could. But they have said many times that it was never and is not now a trilogy. Each game while connected should be seen as a stand alone adventure with a new hero.

Good to know, that might explain the gap between DAO and DA2 a bit.

So what do you think about the time they wrote DA2's main story, was it before DAO's release date or after that?

Gaider says that he had the climax of DA2 in his head when he wrote Awakening, and that he purposefully wrote the party banter to reflect this.

Interesting. I'm glad DA2 is more tied to the DLC than the original game, otherwise we might get a different ending or something like a cliffhanger.
