I would like a clarification regarding the minimal RAM memory requirement of DAI.

On paper, my computer is a little bit above the game requirement with only a total 4 GB of RAM. However, I have only 3,19 GB available according to the system information and 3,3 GB according to http://www.systemrequirementslab.com.

                                                                                                        

So my question is does the game require 4 GB of RAM available for itself or can it be played on a PC with 4 GB (that have to be shared with the OS and the other mandatory processes).

 

Naturally I don’t expect to play in anything other than the minimal settings.

If your system is showing only 3.2GB of memory available, it sounds like you are running a 32bit operating system. The game wont run on your system if that is a case. A 64 bit version of Windows is required.

Generally they give memory requirements as the sum total of your system.   They don't expect consumers to pull up and see how much the OS is using.  

 

That said, if you experience slow downs and such in the game you might be bumping up against what the game needs to run.   The OS will use a virtual memory to keep it running, but that requires read/write to your harddrive which is MUCH slower than RAM.

As long as you are 64bit, you'll be fine if you're happy with minimal settings. 99% of games run fine even below minimal spec if you're ok on minimum (you can run Shadow of Mordor on minimal spec on a 2012 Macbook Air and bootcamp for example, and it's perfectly playable).

I have no doubts about the fact that my computer is running under Windows 7 64 bits (as I have overwrite my old Windows XP SP3 with it this weekend).

 

 

PS: it is imminent release of DAI that convinced me that it was about time to finally install the Windows 7 that I have bought more than 1 year ago (just before the release of Windows 8 that I will never want on any computer).
