When you have people running multiple systems and configurations, it doesn't take overnight to fix the problem. And it hasn't been 24 hours since the game's NA release.

For console gaming, there is one system with updateable firmware, so it's easier for developers to narrow down a bug and patch it.

For PC gaming, it is much more complex and probably why PC gamers experience more problems than console gamers do. I wouldn't say it's necessarily the developers fault. It's just that there are way more factors involved when getting a game to 100% work with everyone's systems. Which is why they provide minimum requirements to at least get the game running and playing.

They also have to work with Intel for Intel machines, AMD for AMD CPU's and GPU's and Mantle, EA for Frostbite, Nvidia for Nvidia cards, Microsoft for Windows frameworks and DirectX, etc. It's a friggin headache.

I know how annoying it is for web developers to get everything displayed correctly and the same way on everyone's multiple browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, multiple mobile browsers, many different versions, etc.). (Which is why there are frameworks to standardized common things.) So I cannot imagine the headache it must be for game developers to patch PC crap.

Now some BW community managers on Twitter say that developers are looking into some problems experienced by players, so hopefully that should get the ball rolling.

I know that and I certainly don't expect an immediate fix. But they have been silent on the issue instead of saying they recognize the problem and are working on it. I've been playing video games for far too long to expect instant gratification. But I do know simple acknowledgment of an issue goes a very long way.

EA did quite a bit to salvage their reputation when Sims 4 came out and people were having issues and the game developers actually communicated with the player base. While not all players are reasonable, it went a very long way to calming down some of the player base and reassured people that they were being listened to even if they couldn't get an immediate fix to their issues, some of them game breaking.

The problem for us is that DA:I isn't as mass market a game as Sims, and also the number of people facing the troubles with the black screen are a minority when compared to those who are on the next next gen consoles or have the pc version playing fine. Unfortunately, I think it's going be a while before Bioware bothers to take notice of what's happening with us!

Worst part is I'm pretty sure almost everyone facing the problem are die-hard DA fans, who have played DAO  and DA 2 on the PC too, and have been waiting for DA:I to arrive. Bioware though is too bust trying their best to impress next gen console gamers (Can't blame them, they need to sell more copies of the game), especially 1st time DA players,  so we don't really come very high on the "must keep happy" demographic list.

Well said.

It's funny, I had a lecture in one of my engineering courses today about business ethics. One point the professor made pretty clear was regarding communication with customers. In short:

- Contact the affected parties as soon as possible

- Let them know you are aware of the issue

- List the steps that have been taken to address the issue

- Give an estimated time-frame for resolution (if possible)

Even if they aren't sure the issue is theirs, it is still important to communicate that work is being done to resolve it.

For example, I'd say something along these lines:

"Thank you for providing feedback for <title>! We are aware that some of our users are experiencing various issues that are preventing them from enjoying the game. We are currently working with different hardware manufactures, using the DXDiag and error messages provided in this thread, to help ascertain precisely where the issue lies. Although I can't give a precise time for resolution, I will post an update in this thread at <time>. Thank you all for your patience and understanding."

Then follow through with the update, even if all it says is, "We're still working on it."

I wonder if Bioware is even bothered to check their own forums?! Don't think any of them are even bothered to check out the forums and respond any of the threads regarding issues faced so far

I uninstalled Intel Turbo Boost and stopped any other extra programs from starting up and installed latest drivers. My game now works.

They changed the minimum requirements AFTER the game launch? Because when I pre-orded the game, it was dual core.. now it says quad core....

And you have dual-core CPU?

Ok it works on my laptop with i5m and hd5650m.

So for those who have true core2duos (those cpus with hyperthreading should work) and have problem with stopping at black screen after autosave feature it seems they did one of 2 things:

1. Most likely they coded some essential thing  into 3rd or 4th core so those with dual core cannot access that feature and can't enter menu

2. Made software check before entering menu to look for how many cores I have. So practicaly they made their game racist against dual cores. But for the love of great me I don't understand why would they do that.

I don't understand why some dev doesn't come here and explains what they did so we know if its gonna get fixed or not.

So, we still have no answers from EA... I looked and I do have dedicated GPU AMD Radeon HD5450 2GB graphics and Intel/Pentium dual core E5400 @2.70GHz each

There should be no reason this game will not run on my system.

No, they didn't. It was quad core since the day they announced official hw requirements

lune1124: Well yes there is. Other than the CPU, your graphics card, HD5450 is quite a bit worse than the minimum (HD4870).

I have 3 cores, plus 1...so ... yeah thats 4 cores !
My system specs are below recommended

Yet ----

1. OFFLINE MODE AFTER VPN CONNECTED - 3 cores = Im facing a black screen after bioware logo and autosave warning
2. ONLINE MODE - 3 cores = It freezes during bioware logo
3. OFFLINE MODE AFTER VPN CONNECTED - 4 cores activated = I can get into options, can start new game, can create character, game runs medium to ultra settings until the guards surround my character, then it insta freezes, all occasions!!!!!!
4. ONLINE MODE - 4 cores = It freezes during menu screen which says "press continue" ALL OCCASIONS!!!!!!

THIS is not a dual-core problem OBVIOUSLY !!! Even a tech-retard can see it

I don't want to argue with you, but the only thing they changed (afaik) since the official announcement (on October 14) was graphics memory on Recommended HW which were 3GB and they changed it to 2GB (because GTX 660 etc. don't even have 3GB version).

You can look it up in the old news from October.

Well, it seems you are right. I, personally, have i5 3570. Though I think a 4-core CPU is always better, nevertheless I've heard there are people who managed to run the game on 2-cores.

Well.. I bought a quad core.. will have it in a few days... Then I'll reload the game and see what happens. And yes, they DID change the min specs after I pre-ordered the game. It was originally dual-core

I should be playing by the weekend ;D

There are many things wrong with DAI for PC, #1 being that it's not for PC, it's a console game designed for controllers and about the only thing they did for PC was add a hotbar to the main window - beyond that, the entire UI is a suckfest of console design that blows on PC.

Having to click and click and click to get simple things like weapon mods done since there's zero drag and drop because the everything is designed for lame controllers.

The way characters move is not precise because of controllers.

Inventory screen showing 4-5 items at once with a ton of scrolling is just sad.

Even sadder is character screen not even fitting all attributes on the screen at once and having to scroll when there's only 6 attributes?  Wow.

It's like the UI is designed for 640x480...or maybe for ancient consoles that should not be a consideration anymore...or like there's next to no consideration of mouse/keyboard/pc even though they clearly spent a ton of time and money developing the game.

Is this a buggy release? or poor quality testing on Bioware's part?

Yes. <_<

Has Bioware addressed the problems?  I can't even get the game to launch without freezing, and it looks like a lot of PC players are in the same boat.  A statement would be nice......
