I expect to see a lot more people with dual core processors confirming that the game works in the coming days. I hope Bioware isn't going to just ignore these complaints of the game not working assuming its because apparently dual core is below recommended specs!

Downloaded my copy via Origin overnight and fired it up this morning.
While I was inspecting the various graphics options (hadn't actually changed anything yet), my desktop powered off.
Ok, that's strange...reboot, everything's fine, get back into the game. I alt-tab out to look at that Tapestry thing on the website and I mess with that for a few minutes...computer powers off again. Hrm.
I Google for answers but there aren't a lot of tech support options right now, so I changed some power management settings and updated my video drivers. Loaded the game again and just let it sit on the main menu screen. About 3 mintues later, computer powers down for a third time.
System:
Win7 x64
8 gigs RAM
AMD FX 6300 cpu
1 TB hdd
Nvidia Geforce 760 ti, 2 gigs video memory, and the latest "game ready" driver

I should mention that my rig is solid as a rock and doesn't power down unless I tell it to power down, ever.

I'd say your computer is overheating if I was to hazard a guess based on what you said. Happens to me when I play on my laptop with graphic intensive games.

Could be overheating?

I have another issue with the game (regarding not being able to connect to the servers), and I won't elaborate but I'll just give my little grain of hope to all those using Dual-Core CPU's. I have an Intel Core i3 4130 3.5 Ghz (Dual Core) and I can run the game almost properly. It lags here and there, but nothing major. It does freeze sometimes in the "Click to continue" screen though.
I hope this fixes soon...
The i3 has hyperthreading, whereas the standard dual-cores like the Pentium or AMD processors don't. I believe that's a key issue.
I'm upgrading my CPU to an i5 and CROSSING MY FINGERS IT WILL WORK (worried that people with quad-core+ cpu's are reporting same problems as dual-cores). I don't think there's any hope for people with dual-cores, like my current system. The system requirements were out months ago, so they're not going to refactor the game so that it works for dual-cores. Unless the game code gets cracked, which is highly unlikely (Fifa 14 and Lord of something uses the same DRM as Dragon Age Inquisition and they haven't been cracked yet), there is probably going to be no work around.
You can blame PC pirates for the incessant DRM from video game companies. The companies employ thousands and have salaries to make, and they can't allow their work to be stolen. I suspect the reason companies focus more on console game these days is because PC pirating is more rampant and more accessible compared to using consoles.

Has never happened before with any game I've ever played. The case has 4 120mms in it.

I'm going wait for a week, if there's no improvement then even I'll be upgrading to an i5.. let me know if it works!

Even with 4 fans your CPU might be producing a lot of heat trying to run the game. Are you running any background applications? Also have you overclocked your CPU? If you have, might help to underclock it a little..

Only thing running in the background is my AV software. Haven't overclocked, either.
Seriously, no game has ever produced a crash like that on my machine.

Have you dusted it recently? Also, is your PSU beefy enough to handle all your hardware, with overhead?

How did you start in windowed mode? I'm running a Quad core and I think mine would work windowed.
If the Game starts (first black screen) then press alt+enter for windowed mode. so i passed the login in screen after that i set up graphics and turned full mode on. i plaey now for 30 minutes ![]()

You guys are actually playing the game, on release day. That isn't so bad.
Nah. It's a bare minimum. Let's not start acting like it's an achievement just because big developer and publishers seem to be unable to release a working game recently. It's their failing and not a case of overgrown expectations on our part.

I'm sorry to tell you I'm on a i5 with hyperthreading (but dual cores), and I have this problem too.

Talking about overheating, the CPU usage on boot (before The Black Screen of Death), the CPU usage does look extreme - I shot up to 99% at one point.
I strongly suspect that's DRM related, given the scuttlebutt about how it works is by mass-encryption/decryption of the exe.

I stayed up with a tech last night trying to fix the problems, lowering the settings in nvidea control panel and lowering resolution. No improvements. The guy said I had to upgrade my computer, I responded to him saying that "I'm running your Minimum specs". He apologized for the inconvenience so I asked for my money back. I might repurchase the game again if they fix w/e stupid issue they have going on. Best of luck to all of you having problems, it doesn't have to do with minimum specs but more of a fail safe to lock people out it seems

This is nonsense. If anything, its the increased hassle to the customer base that drives pirating to begin with. Why pay 70+ bucks for a game that I can't get work correctly through legit means when I can wait a few weeks and play a perfectly working, though illegal, version for free? If these things worked hassle free from the beginning pirating would be largely a non issue as far as their profits are concerned.

After so many getting stucked on main menu freezing issue (in which if it didn't freeze, game plays fine), I decided to try a trick that helped me get through stuck on loading screen before with SWTOR on DA:I this time. I added the whole DA:I folder as an exception on my antivirus, and even with being online, got through the loading screen and main menu just fine. Close game after I tweak options and open back in, no more stuck on the "Connecting to DA Server" or just stuck on main menu freeze, fingers crossed it'll stay way cause I'm enjoying the game xD
Don't quote on me though for possible solution, it may work for me, might not work for you, but never hurts to try I guess.

I tried for 6 hours and didn't get passed the Title Screen. To know that some people are able to play it with just minor issues (such as lag) doesn't sound to bad.

I'd scream in the ear of a small kitten to play this game lag and all. I have not even seen the main menu

I still can't get it to run in windowed mode. In me3 there was a similar problem but you could (outside the game) use the config to set it to run windowed so that solved the problem for a lot of people. There doesn't seem to be that option here though.

Another quick question if y'all would indulge me...
Is DA:I meant to be running 100% CPU? It's the absolute only thing I have running when I look at Task Manager.
