i'm 6 hours in...

make sure you do not have any programs running in the background, no FRAPS, no Raptr, MSI afterburner, Riva Tuner, any kind of video recording or monitoring applications. go into Origin's settings and turn off the overlay. play with your settings more in game, after tweaking your settings quit the game entirely and restart it. also turning down the terrain, vegetation and water to medium or low helps quite a bit as well.

I did all that as well. Thanks for the suggestion but that dosen't seem to be the problem.

What is the common denominator between us because it certainly isn't hardware. Software is too various, unless we all are using the same programs like Avast or something but I doubt avast is causing that. THe only common denominator is the game from what I can tell.

I can run Titanfall and any other PC game fine, no FPS problems.

looks like this game takes a beast of a PC to really be able to push it, just another reason to upgrade ;)

i can run battlefield 4 no issues, ill try disabling Avast when i get off work but i can tell you i do have it set to silent/gaming mode, so i actually forgot to mention it! that would be a good start though for sure. are you running it on an SSD? load times for me went from more than 60 seconds to less than 30 seconds.

  • AMD FX-Series FX-6300 (3.50GHz)
  • 8GB DDR3 1TB HDD
  • Windows 8.1 64bit
  • AMD Radeon R9 270X DDR5 2G

Any thoughts on how I would run with these specs? According to OP, I should be able to play on Ultra for most of the settings. Any input?

Thanks in advance!

Okay so I just got off the phone with more Techs.

They have gotten alot of complaints and they have now recognized an engine problem with the game. The EA rep told me the fix would take from 1 week-1 month since it is being done by the studio and they gave no time frame.

Till then, we are stuck but here is one more temporary solution:

>>Origin Tutorial:
Step 1: Boot up Origin
Step 2: Right Click on Dragon Age: Inquisition and select Game Properties
Step 3: Paste
-GameTime.MaxSimFps 60 -GameTime.ForceSimRate 60+
Step 4: Click Ok then Click Play

Thats right, the previous temporary fix by one of us (a gamer) has been adopted by EA to tide us over until Patch. The EA rep said that this would do nothing if the problem is the ENGINE.

So they said the performance and FPS issues are a problem with the game engine? That fuckin sucks. I don't want to wait another fin month.

Are they really going to fix it, or are they blowing smoke, until you forget about it.

Okay, thought this might help:

6 GB RAM

OS: Win 7 Ultimate 64 bits

GPU: XFX Radeon HD 7750

CPU: Phenom II X4 955 3.2 GHz

I've been running this game with most settings on medium.. had a few stutters but after disabling AA and lowering post processing the game is running on a stable 30 (not ideal, but it's what I expected from my rig, I'll be getting a new one in january).

Also, this thread is TL;DR for me... so... did anyone find a workaround the shiny hairs?

I hope not, but I fear that is what they are kind of what they are doing. Let's hope not :) I mean, there are 3 other forums that I'm on where there are 20+ people with FPS problems so its not an isolated case. I think they'll want it fixed.

Yes, put your meshes on High, anything lower and you will get METAL hair

Could this be on NVIDIA's end? Lots of people with the low FPS problem are using NVIDIA graphics cards

I have an AMD Sapphire 7870, and I am getting horrible fps. I just ordered a GTX 980, it won't be here untill Dec 2nd... I guess I'll be ready for the Witcher 3.  lol

Will that lower the FPS too much? This IS an old computer after all.

I put mesh and effects on high (Everything else is on low) and I didn't notice a change.

Some effects on low are hilariously bad. Fire in particular... It literally looks like bad pixel art lol. I'm talking ****** red squares flying around.

@CapivaRasgor,

Setting mesh on high should not be too bad. I was getting some bad fps (like 14 to 20) with mesh set on ultra.

Started playing today my computer froze about 5 times in about total 5 hours of gameplay.

No idea what is happening and a bit "scared" since people here are not reporting that the game is freezing on them much apart from menus and FPS drops. :/

My computer never froze until yesterday. I am playing on auto setting and even turned off occul and anti alias. Drivers are updated just in case i redid it twice with no success

So god knows if I know whats happening. Had I been the temperamental type I would probably be raging by now as I am sure most of you would :D

Thanks guys, this has actually IMPROVED the fps, guess that's thanks to the hair not reflecting light anymore..

5930K @ 3.7GHz (via MCE all 6 cores), 780Ti GHz @ 1215MHz, 16GB DDR4 2133MHz; all settings maxed out @ 1200p minus AA gives a solid 60FPS vsync. Screenshots I posted are at Anandtech forums in the DA: Inquisition thread (can't add links here for some reason).

Turning off the overlay for Origin worked I can now play with no major stutters. There are a few minor stutters but that is nothing compared to the constant half minute stutters I would get. Game is playable now! :D

Even after more tweaking with the settings, I'm still getting the same problem with stuttering/poor fps/dramatic slowdown.  I'm starting to notice a pattern with mine, though I'm not sure if this is relevant or me just grabbing at every possible straw that could save me from having to drop a bunch of money I really shouldn't be dropping on a new laptop that can handle this game better.  It seems I get decent gameplay in the mornings and early afternoon, but usually around 5pm-5:30pm EST, the performance takes a swift and sharp nosedive into unplayable.  This is after doing all the driver updating I can, setting every setting to low, making sure nothing else is running at the same time, making sure it's running with my GTX 675M and not the integrated graphics, and just about everything else I can think of short of sacrificing a small child to Cthulhu.  The only thing I can think is that maybe my CPU just ain't quite up to snuff even though Can You Run It said it should be.  Having said that I'm not even remotely technically gifted, so can anybody tell me if it's possible that my CPU could be causing the problem?  I'm running an Intel Core i7-3630QM @ 2.40GHz.

Edit:  Just tried turning off the Origin overlay and I got maybe 10 minutes of smooth before dropping back to the same slowdown.

I am getting substandard performance, but mostly it seems im getting less performance with Crossfire then with single card.  Direct X crossfire uses 40-50% of each card and seems to bounce all over the place on high with some things low or off.

Mantle lags the load times and such but at least seems to be using 70%+ each.  They really need to tweek a few more things I hope

I've been playing Inquisition for more than 3 days now (lovin' it so far), but seem to be having really bad performance.

These are my specs:

AMD FX-4300
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 (MSI)
RAM: 8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 820MHz

I have the graphics settings on medium (even though the game recommends high) and yet everytime I am in a city or in a place with a lot of npcs my Framerate drops below 20. On average I have 30-40 FPS.

Things I tried:

-Settings to low, no change

-Clean install of latest Nvidia drivers, no change

-Disable Origin in-game, no change

Any suggestions?
