I was messing around with some of the Frostbite console commands and I noticed that:

PostProcess.DynamicAOEnable 0

Netted me around 10 FPS in random Hinterlands areas (not near camps, those are still framerate death traps).  I figured this was just turning off Ambient Occlusion, but that requires a game restart to take effect, and the effect of this command can be seen in real time.

Nevertheless, I manually disabled Ambient Occlusion in the settings and restarted my game just to see what would happen.  I gained a few FPS, but nothing major.  I ran the command again, though, and my FPS shot up 10+ again.

So I guess you could give this command a try.  It obviously makes ambient lighting look worse.

im considering to changing settings to high except shadows and texture quality

Just a heads up, my FPS skyrocketed above 45 in hinterlands with all settings set to high (tessellation, meshes, textures, and terrain set to ultra) when I turned off the origin ingame overlay. Go to: Origin -> application settings -> Origin in game -> uncheck the option to enable origin in game.

It's funny, I have an EVGA as well, except a GTX 980, and it runs smooth as butter as well using DSR at 1.5x 1080p, with everything turned all the way up. These cards just seem to work better than others for some reason.

That's good tip. I think i had it off no wonder i have smooth performance.

Also a tip for AMD gamers. Use RadeonPro, Force V-sync (disable in-game V-sync) and Enable Tri-Buffering. No Stuttering.

New System:

GTX980M 8 GB (updated drivers tonight)

i7-4910 MQ 2.9 GHz overclocked to 3.5.GHz

Win 7 Pro 64 bit

Have a 500 GB SSD OS and 1.5 TB HD

Just ran through the intro to Haven,

Have the microstuttering on the cutscenes. Only noticeable to me since everything else runs smoothly.

Ran at a pretty solid 60 fps with ultra settings, had a couple of moments where it dropped to 47 fps (mainly standing and looking t a busy vista).

So far I haven't noticed any other issues.

I was downloading and installing all my other games while I was playing.

I do have one weird Audio issue.

If I use my headphones, the voices (all of them, mine and people speaking to me) sound like they are really far away or in another room. Anyone have any ideas about that? Sounds fine without the headphones. These are a cheap pair. I played around with the Audio setting, TV, home theater, night, headphones, and it;s the same on all.......

Yeah, like earlier, I can't seem to fix this game at all--

Cleaned my case/mobo/heatsink/all of it, did clean install of drivers, even disabled antivirus while playing, removed overlay and other similar things as well (including the origin one).

I'm on a GeForce 660, intel i7 950, 16G DDR3 Ram ( I forgot speed, but its 16), windows 7 64bit

All I know is I get around 10-15 fps on the absolute lowest settings, and everthing plays like it is in non-stop slow motion. It's entirely unplayable. I'm able to run farcry 4 on high-max with 40-60 varying, yet I get 10-15 on this on low. I'm hoping it's a bug that gets fixed, as it seems fun, but I just cannot play. As note, I've even lowered resolution from 1920x1080 to 1600x900. It doesn't seem like any setting makes it run smoother.

Perhaps it's a problem with the driver. Have Nvidia released a new driver yet? Also 660 is an old card so is understandable. Did you meet the minimum requirements of the game? Do ensure you do not run any 3rd party program like MSI afterburner, FRAPS, etc.

And most importantly, do not overclock your CPU or GPU if you have done so. Many games are known for causing issues with overclocking.

I'm not running any 3rd party ones like that, nothing is overclocked, and more than that, I am on latest beta driver-- also, as note, the 660 is only a few generations old. It's well above minimum, and nearly at recommended.

Edit: In fact, the first post says it is light green, good for high/1080p. I wonder if it's my CPU.

Man, I would recommend getting something better than a 7870 (if you can) that is what I have now, and my FPS and lag is painfully bad (it ranges from 14 to 45). Still I think my cpu is a problem, Intel ® Core™2 Quad CPU  Q8400 @ 2.66GHz  2.67.GHz...

May be the processor is the problem indeed, some other people say 7870 is good on high with some settings ultra , some low,...but what settings do you use, ultra, high??In detail ..please.

A possible fix for amd radeon users,

Download the newest driver

Open amd catalyst control center, click on Gaming/3D applications

Set vertical refresh to always on & set OpenGL triple buffering to ON

I went from having 12-20fps in fights or vegetated areas to 45-60fps now.

I no longer have stutters anymore either

My pc specs

amd 8320

SSD 120gb

14gb ram

amd radeon r9 270

windows 10

Here are some screenshots of my graphic settings & in-game screenshots of how it looks:

Found an awesome solution for me. I have a MSI HD 7870 and Intel i3(yeah). Running it at average 45(even at hinterlands and redcliffe village) on High Custom Settings.

I did the following:

- Disabled Origin in game

- Terrain quality set to low(but medium works as well). Don't worry, the most dramatic change is some pop in when you're fast with your horse.

- AND MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL: I'm using the MANTLE API.

Running smooth as butter, really enjoying the game. Almost everything is on High, with some options(mesh and effects) on Ultra. I also put Post Processing on low(but that's because my pc isn't THAT good). Terrain quality on low with Mantle solved all the performance problems i was having. I hope it works for you guys too.

Could you expain to me what is terrain quality?

And does this mean if I get 270x with my i7 920 2.67 I will get decent frames on High?? I am still debating between 270x and 290 ( I know the difference is huge)...but the point is... I don't play games like I used to do in the the past...This game...is the only one I have been waiting for for a long time...So, I will technically upgrade my card for it solely..sometimes I say, come on..you have been waiting for this...just get that 290 , put everything on ultra, and enjoy...but I really don't know if the difference between high and ultra is worth it.

I noticed you play on a mix of low, medium, high on 1360*768...hmmm...I thought an r9 270 ( the recommended card )..would play High on 1080!..Guess I was wrong..but anyway, from the screenshots I think this games looks great even in medium.

Was able to run it smoothly on my laptop at low settings with the following specs:

Core i3-3110m

4 GB Ram

ATI Radeon HD 7670M

Wondering if I can run Unity now

While running MSI afterburner in the background  I've noticed that my GPU load is under 50%  when I'm having less than 20 fps  in heavy areas.

Doesn't matter if I'm on low or high specs I still get crappy perfomance.

I'm ussing a Gigabyte GTX 760 2GB with 344.75 drivers.

Da Fuq Nvidia?

Unfortunately I am experiencing an FPS issue that renders the game unplayable.

There are occasions during exploration where everything runs smoothly (specifically when I first load the game), then gradually gameplay slows, at times reaching a complete halt, somewhat recovering, then stutter once again, the cycle seemingly worsening with time.

Additionally, if any cutscenes trigger during these stuttering moments the lag becomes unbearable, though the audio does remain in sync with the lag and the game has not crashed thus far. (I'm exploring the area post prologue)

After attempts to change graphics settings from Low to Ultra the results remained the same with only very minor performance differences, however the lag/stutter/halt cycle would return on a regular basis at all graphic quality levels.

My Specs:

CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz

GPU: GeForce GTX 670

Memory: 16.00 GB RAM

Resolution: 1920x1080 60 Hz

NVIDIA Driver Version: 344.75

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate

I ran four consecutive benchmark tests on the "Medium" setting, each one producing progressively worse results:

Benchmark Test 1:

FPS

Avg 53

Min 38

Test 2:

Avg: 43.4

Min:17.8

Test 3:

Avg: 37

Min: 14.1

Test 4:

Avg: 32.9

Min 10.1

How did you go in the hinterlands/redcliffe?

Have not reached there yet. Just started out and currently in Haven. I have set the graphics to bare minimum and playing at 720p resolution. Also terminated all non-critical processes before playing. Seems the i3 hyperthreading works to make it act like a quad core.

You need to adjust settings then as my Hd7870 runs at 50-60 on mostly high with ultra textures. Might well be your cpu then as you mention.

what is the difference between ultra and High, is it worth buying r9 290 over r9 270x( which is equal to 7870)?

have you tried ultra?

OKAY. So yesterday I posted in here saying that I too suffer from low FPS in the Hinterlands. As a reminder, my rig:

i7 4790 3.6 GHz + MSI Z97 Gaming 5

Nvidia GTX 980 4GB (latest driver)

16GB ram

I played with all the graphics settings set to High, 2x MSAA, SSAO, regular fullscreen with a 1680 x 1050 resolution, and I also had a bunch of stuff running in the background (fraps, skype, steam, windows live mail and two more, these programs run all the time).

I fiddled with the settings somewhat today and I got the following results:

With all background programs mentioned turned off, and

  • windowed borderless
  • mesh ultra
  • tesselation off
  • texture fade touched
  • shadow, vegetation, water etc high
  • post processing quality low
  • effects ultra
  • post processor antialiasing low
  • multi sampling off (with FXAA forced through the control panel)

I did a benchmark test and it gave me an average of 100.3 and a minimum of 74.3.

I left the game, turned on Fraps and did the 60FPS fix for cutscenes. Ran another benchmark and got an average of 93.7 and a minimum of 73.1.

I ran around the Hinterlands like this for a minute and my FPS remained steady at 60 instead of the dreadful 30/35 I had before.

Soooooo... gonna play for a bit and HOPE that this also solved my random crashing issues. Turning off a lot of background programs definitely helped, as did running in a borderless window. I'll let you guys know how it went.

EDIT: forgot to mention that in I have the Origin overlay turned off, today and yesterday, and I'm in no way connected to the servers either.

EDIT2: well I lasted a grand total of 10 to 15 minutes before it crashed again :pinched: I'm not sure if it has anything to do with directx though, as I'm not getting any actual errors. It just closes the game and poofs me back to desktop.

Havnt tried on ultra but of things I've read there wont be much visible difference - its all a matter of future proofing but if I were you and wanted to upgrade your gpu, at least wait for the patch first, muck about with your settings and make sure you have no background overlay programs running. You will then know if its better to upgrade either your CPU or gpu.
