Hello guys! I hope in the right topic here. So my boyfriend surprised me last week and bought me Inquisition. Sooo I installed it on my laptop and... Well sadly I reached the Crossroads and started lagging very very much. I play on medium graphics, the only Ultra is the one for displaying characters. Fraps shows I'm on currently 10fps. My laptop specs are RAM 8GB, Intel iCore7 CPU 1.8GHz and nVidia GeForce 740m 2GB. I also run with Win7 64bit. I thought I can play on medium without problem. Also yesterday the game made my laptop crash and restart a few times, though it was not overheated. Any of you have any suggestions what it might be? Or maybe my specs are too low for medium graphics? I can't really enjoy the game like that :(

I would probably advise you to update your graphics drivers and see if that helps. You should have no problem playing on medium settings. If you're running HBAO Full disable it and use none or SSAO. In fact, I asked something quite similar a while back on the NVIDIA forums so I'll leave you with the answer. Hope it helps:

Has the 30 fps conversation thing been fixed yet?

OdanUrr thank you, but I fixed the problem. I feel so stupid actually, because the solution was so silly! I simply restarted my laptop. I rarely do that. It hadn't been restarted in month/s. So guys always remember to restart! Now I do that every time before I play and I'm with high graphic settings. Although I must warn about a bug. I played with a connected monitor, transferred the image there, set closing the lid to do nothing and then closed it. This causes my laptop to crash restart so those with laptops - keep in mind.

Well, I'm glad you figured it out. Happy hunting, Inquisitor. ;)

How is this game on a 750 Ti? Also is it more CPU or GPU needy?

My rig is ;

ASUS GENE-Z Maximum IV (latest BIOS updated)

Intel i7 2600k 32 nm 3.8 Ghz

MSI 970 GTX 4 GB Limited Edition Factory OC'ed

G-Skill 8 GB 1866 MHZ Ram

128 GB SSD + 1 TB WD (game is on 1 TB, windows is on SSD)

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

All drivers up-to-date.

No tweaks, No self-made OC, No mods.

All overlays disabled, no background process is going on during gaming.

Tried reinstalling all the drivers and reinstalling the game.

With this rig I can play any latest game on max settings. Since years, this game is the only trouble-maker and its annoying.

Even when I reduce every single setting to Low (including resolution scale to 50, which makes the game look like Tomb Raider 1), stutter, hangups and freezes occur very often on a 10-15 seconds interval, mainly during combat, menus and cutscenes. Besides that game runs above 30-40 fps. My CPU is on %100, game literally locks my whole PC down.

Im really running out of options here, maybe I can try to install Win 8.1 Pro 64-bit and carry the game over to the SSD, while downclocking my hardware. Nevertheless, its too much hassle to go through just for one game, while there are beastly high tech games out there like Witcher 3, which I played with my old 670 GTX without a single drop of FPS, all settings on Ultra.

You should check out the first link in my signature.  The OP in there has a lot of suggestions that might help.  Some of which did help me with some of the very problems you're describing.

I can tell you that the first thing you need to do is get the game installed onto a SSD.  This game doesn't play very nice otherwise, and that should ease up your CPU problem some.  I know that Win 8 runs the game smoother, but you should start with a SSD before you buy a new OS.

Don't think so. I still have to enter the argument in the command line in order to stop cutscene stuttering.

Hey all, Ive managed to solve my own issue.

Upgraded my Windows to 8.1 Pro 64-bit with a clean install and carried the game to SSD. Right now I play everything on MAX and run around 40-60 FPS, just like its supposed to be. If you have the same issue, do the same. It seems like SSD+Win 8.1 presented the right resource management the game needs.

Thank you for your suggestions so far! :)
