Making a male elf for me was the devil in the trial. I could make a good looking male dwarf and human but elves just kept coming out wrong.

Eyes need to be smaller. Chin looks fine, actually. Men need manly chins.
The measure of manliness is the face/chin ratio

Are they the same elf? Cause at first I didn't scroll down and I said wtf? he looks fine?
Then - while I don't think he's ugly - I did see why the second picture is less than "perfect".
But I was shocked at how different the profile looked.

should place that on your drivers license, hardly anyone would notice the difference.
Wait for it
Totally joking lol

I would reduce the size of the eyes a little, make the chin a little less broad and remove the eyeshadow. The dark circles make his eyes pop and make him look a bit creepy.
I find that the easiest way to make an appealing looking character is to pick one of the presets that you like the most (or dislike the least), then start customising by removing the "Aboslutely no!" bits from the preset. Then subtly work your way down from the no-no-no features to the hm-kinda-ok features. Make the character bald and pick the final hair style last so you can clearly see the facial bone structure, ears etc.
Only change something if it looks really off or unappealing to you, ensuring that you don't go for 100% perfection because that will end up in weird Photoshop model look-alikes. Leave some imperfections like a rough skin complexion, an unflattering small scar or an eye shape that isn't the "hottest one of the slider".
Hope that helps. Remember, at the end of the day it's *your* character and if you like how they look like, then you've succeeded. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. ![]()
Edit: Just saw your edited elf; very nice! He looks natural but appealing.

There is actually people who look like this, so not ugly ( don't wanna get quite in the crossfire here ) but...
It's the chin. Big time. make the chin more narrow, make widen the jawbone a little, pull the eyes a little further and pull the eyebrows a little bit down, i can see that working quite well.

I liked him when he was uglier lol! I think there is something a bit more real to having a character that has flaws versus a supermodel with a scar ![]()
