Why is it WASD movement only?  Why do we have to hold the right mouse button to have mouselook?  At least give us a mouselook toggle option.

I simply cannot play this game because the controls have been so changed from the other DA games.

I'm a bleeping mess right now.  I've waited so long and have wanted this game so much and now I can't even play it.

I'm right there with you!

I use an old school layout for my keyboard binding (RMB forwards, W jump, E/R strafe left right etc. Basically Doom controls), and not being able to rebind any of the mouse buttons has royally screwed me. I just cannot play with WASD. I tried using Autohotkey to change RMB to something else, but then I completely lose the mouselook.

Yes, if I could only find a way to bind both right click and W to the right mouse button, I could work something out.

You could try this code for AutoHotkey

~RButton::Send,{w Down}

~RButton Up::Send,{w Up}

Add ~ (tilde) before the hotkey will maintain its original function.

Haha, I just figured that out BioBrainX, and came here to let others know!

This is how I worked it out:

#IfWinActive Dragon Age: Inquisition
~RButton::Numpad0
XButton1::Numpad1

Then bound forwards to Numpad 0. So when RMB is pressed I get mouselook and move forwards, and Xbutton1 (which is Button 4 on my mouse) I have bound for autorun.

Wooo! I can finally play properly!

Forgive my denseness, but could someone explain the difference from these controls and the previous dragon age games? WASD and holding right mouse to look around sounds the same to me.

Pretty much. OP complaining they can't play because this is "so changed from the other DA games" is making me wonder if my memory has been going and I didn't even notice, or smth.

In DAO you could hold both right and mouse buttons to move forward with mouselook.

In DAI left mouse button is for basic attack and cannot be changed.

Ahh, I see. Yeah, I remember the both buttons to move forward thing, this does sound like rather inconvenient change.

How do you know which XButton corresponds to which mouse button?  My mouse has 5 buttons.

EDIT:  Got it.  It helps to read the handy-dandy help file.  :P

This is stupid why do we have to do these changes when it's obviously a design flaw.

Hang on; I held down right-mouse for the camera and used WASD to move in Origins, how is what's in DAI different from that?  It's not coming out here in Aus for another day or so so I'm genuinely curious.

I am shocked that mouse-driven movement is not in this game. I have played for about 4 hours now and I still can't adjust to the crappy controls. I'm not sure what's worse, no mouse-driven movements or no left-click to attack but not moving to the target! FFS I mouse over a target, hold down mouse button to attack, then I just stand there swinging my weapon at thin air. So I have to push down "W" to move to target, then Maker forbid if the target moves! I also have to make sure no ability is mapped to the "2" key because I can't move and use that ability at the same time.

I really hate the way movement is set up in this game. That should be the one thing you should never have to worry about in a RPG. I am honestly very dissapointed in this game. I'm glad I only paid about $40 for it.

You should be fine if that's what you did before.  Left mouse button is now mapped to the default attack, but it won't move you to your target like in DAO.  You'll just whiff air if you're too far away.  I believe ranged attacks are seeker missiles, though, and always find their targets on their own.

Some of us used left+right mouse buttons to move forward in mouselook mode in DAO and DA2, and that's what they have taken out.

So it plays like it does in DA:2? Seems like a typical action combat setup, that is common nowadays. Never cared for mouse-click-to-move so I guess this won't bother me.

Will not auto-moving to target bother you? Because you don't do that either as a Melee character. You just swing at the air.

If you mean hold down both buttons to move then no. "WASD" to move, right mouse button to look/turn.

Isn't this inconsistent with DAO and DA2?  I've never had to use the keyboard to play before.

Been awhile since I played those but yes I do recall mouse driven movement in those. I am positive that if you clicked on an enemy you would automatically move to it to attack.

Exactly.  That's what I'm complaining about.  :)
