I'm not sure how this feels. I just recently watched a few of the most recent product marketing trailers thrown out to social media and I'm really not sure how I feel about the music choices.

I'm sure the days of Inon Zur being completely capable of carrying an entire artistic aesthetic based on a simple melodic line are well past or perhaps the music directors are simply of the opinion that the dichotomy of sound and images is gritty and hip...I really have no idea.

But I can say that the music isn't doing it for me, at least in the trailers.

Regardless its just trailers, but...it just seems jarring and odd, like cutting Jack Wall out of Mass Effect and replacing it with Travis Tritt.

Using contemporary music is nothing new for Dragon Age

Having contemporary music isn't a new thing to DA or the trailers.
It's been around since the beginning.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
I liked the new trailers though, seemed to add something neat to the subject matter.

I quite like the work they've done for inquisition, it's new and fresh, there will always be die hard fans of inon's work on the previous installments, but to quote barney stinson ( in most cases ) new is always better.

Edit: oh i see what you meant, i still don't mind.

30 Seconds to Mars' 'This is War' brings manly tears to my eyes. Every time I hear it I get cross fade montages of Alistair, Morrigan, Leliana, Sten, Dog etc. ;_;

I think this is just something the DA team likes to do.

The new trailers are really good, but yes the music just doesn't fit. That song in 'The Breach' trailer sounded very awkward and out of place. I wish they hadn't done that.

These trailers aren't for us, we're already hooked on the game. They're meant for everyone else that is still deciding to get the game or attracting new people. So it's normal for them to use such music.

I like all the music they used in DAI. DAO was the one with funny music.

I loved "what a wonderful world" in the new trailer today! So much so I want it on itunes!

I've always enjoyed it. I think for whatever reason it really works for Dragon Age, where it would work for a TES game or something.

There is no situation, no circumstance, where Louis Armstrong (or a cover thereof) is inappropriate.

Fact. :)

The sooner I realized Bioware marketing wasn't for me, the happier I became.  Seriously, Bioware marketing is pretty much a study in "how to present your product as it's polar opposite" 101.  Most Bioware DA trailers would lead you to believe the game is some sort of cross between Game of Thrones, God of War, and 300.

I love the juxtaposition of modern music paired with a fantasy setting.  And to be honest, I'll be playing the entire game listening to the score...no need to cobble it into 2-minute snippets for every trailer.

I actually love it, they always manage to find songs that just fit perfectly with the trailers.

The most recent trailer for DAI, A Wonderful World, sounds good. The music was great.

The one before that, though, The Breach... that was awful.  Awful.

This is factually true. What I mean is contemporary music less fitting to the atmosphere of the game. Which I illustrate by replacing Jack Wall with Travis Tritt for ME3.

It is fine. They commercials are about appealing to fans of the current age of man. Contemporary music will help generate interest from viewers.

To be honest, contemporary music matches the Dragon Age franchise. Why? Because Dragon Age is anachronistic, unlike say The Elder Scrolls or Dragon's Dogma. Dragon Age makes references to pop culture (e.g. "I like big boats and I cannot lie," Superman's origin story etc.). Also, Dragon Age employs North American voice actors like Brian Bloom, who plays Varric off as a much more "modern" type of fantasy character, whether it is his demeanor, his sense of humor, his tone of voice, his mannerisms, or the like. He isn't exactly what I would call antiquated in any way. Felicia Day's Tallis character also fits this modernistic approach.

Can anyone else name other anachronisms from Dragon Age? I know the franchise is riddled with it.

No I can't say that I am, that was a pretty horrible trailer too. In fact the Breach trailer is well above that in regards to quality...but still. All I'm saying is the music feels oddly out of place.
